- घर बदलने की तैयारी, मूव करने की तारीख़ से कम से कम 7-10 दिन पहले ही शुरू कर दें। इस प्रक्रिया का सबसे पहला काम होगा फ़ालतू सामानों से छुटकारा पाना, इससे आपके घर में सामान कम हो जाएगा और पैक करके शिफ्ट करना आसान हो जायेगा।
- अपने फ़र्नीचर का नाप लें। अगर आपके फर्नीचर के पार्ट्स को अलग-अलग नहीं किया जा सकता और ये आपके नए घर के दरवाज़े और कमरों के हिसाब बड़ा है तो ऐसे में बेहतर यही होगा की आप अपना फर्नीचर बदल लें। अगर आप ये काम मूव करने से कुछ समय पहले कर लें तो आपको पुराने फ़र्नीचर को बेचकर नया फ़र्नीचर ख़रीदने का समय मिल जाएगा और आपका पुराना फ़र्नीचर बेकार के सामानों की तरह फेंके जाने से भी बच जाएगा।
- मूव करने से पहले हर दिन कम से कम एक घंटा सारे सामानों को अलग-अलग कैटेगरी (निजी सामान, नाज़ुक सामान, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक सामान इत्यादि) में रखने के लिए दें। ऐसा करने से आप पैकर्स और मूवर्स को समझाने में लगने वाला समय बचाने के साथ साथ अपने कीमती सामानों को भी बिना किसी टूट फूट के शिफ्ट कर पाएंगे।
- सबसे ज़रूरी और महंगे सामान जैसे कि जेवर-गहने, लैपटॉप, ज़रूरी कानूनी काग़ज़ हमेशा अपने साथ रखें। इन सभी सामानों को सिर्फ़ आप या आपके भरोसेमंद लोग ही संभाल कर रखें। इन सामानों को आप या तो बैंक में रख आएँ या उस बैकपैक में रखें जिसे आप हमेशा अपने साथ कैरी कर रहे हों। मूव करने वाले दिन इन सामानों का ख़ासतौर पर ध्यान रखें।
- अगर आप अपने नए घर में अपने सारे सामान को ख़ुद अनपैक करने का सोच रहे हैं, तो ध्यान रखें कि ख़ुद ही सारा काम करने में बहुत समय लगता है। ऐसे में, आप रोज़मर्रा के इस्तेमाल की चीजें एक ओवरनाइट बैग में पैक करके रख लें जिनसे आपको दो-तीन दिनों तक ज़रूरी सामानों (जैसे कि टूथब्रश, चप्पल इत्यादि) को ढूँढने के लिए परेशान ना होना पड़े।
- मूव करने से एक या दो दिन पहले, अगर हो सके तो अपने नए घर की साफ़-सफ़ाई करवा लें, अपने रसोई और बाथरूम पर ख़ास ध्यान दें। ऐसा करने से आपको घर में शिफ़्ट करने के साथ ही सफ़ाई करने में अपना समय बर्बाद करने की ज़रूरत नहीं पड़ेगी।
- पैकर्स और मूवर्स को फ़र्नीचर के छोटे-छोटे हिस्से जैसे कि नट्स, बोल्ट्स, स्क्रू इत्यादि को एक एयर-टाइट बैग में रखने के लिए कहें और उन्हें उस फ़र्नीचर के साथ लगाएं जिसका वो हिस्सा हैं। इस तरह आपको पता होगा कि उन छोटे-छोटे सामानों को कहाँ इस्तेमाल करना है।
- बाथरूम और टॉयलेट में इस्तेमाल होने वाले सामानों को आप ठीक उसी तरह पैक करें जैसे आप उन्हें कहीं बाहर छुट्टियों पर घूमने ले जाने के लिए करते हैं यानी कि सभी डिब्बों या बोतलों के ढक्कन को खोलें, उनके मुँह पर फॉयल लगाएँ और फिर उनका ढक्कन या टॉप बन्द कर दें। ऐसा करने से कोई भी सामान लीक नहीं करेगा, बहेगा नहीं।
- अपने इलेक्ट्रिकल उपकरणों की वायरिंग की तस्वीरें लें। आपके टीवी से लेकर कम्प्यूटर तक, हर जगह बहुत से तार होते हैं जिनको सही जगह ना जोड़ने पर आपके उपकरण ढंग से काम नहीं करेंगे और ऐसी स्थिति में आपको प्रोफेशनल्स को बुलाकर अपना काम करवाना पड़ेगा। उससे बेहतर है कि आप अपने सभी इलेक्ट्रिकल उपकरणों की वायरिंग की तस्वीर लेकर रखें।
