Here are the most common crap stories we have heard when it comes to renting, buying, selling and finding a tenant –

Renting a house

I have to find a new home, since my office location is shifting by the end of this month. I contacted a broker and he told me about how he can help in finding houses in the area. I was excited by his explaination. He told me he will need 3 days time to plan and organise house visits for me. I waited and he got back to me with four house options in the area. He had to accompany me to visit all the houses. I was waiting for him near a coffee shop in the area, where he had asked me to wait on a sunny afternoon. He arrived and built a conversation with me for 10 minutes and convinced me on only visiting 2 houses out of the 4, because he has selected them for my need. After visiting the houses, he was trying to push me into taking one of the houses to get done with his job. I did not accept. The houses were nowhere close to what he had described about them. He finally agreed to. He promised me that the houses we are to visit on day 2 are the best and will surely match my taste. I went along with him and found one house to be decent and confirmed him. Negotiation was another time taking process, where I need to talk to him and wait till he spoke to the landlord and got back to me. All that he cares about is getting the 1 month rent as brokerage and closing the deal. For which he starts to act arrogant and angry that I’m picky about what kind of house I need and also on the price I am willing to pay for the house. My office has shifted their location and I am still waiting to finalise a home. It would have been comfortable if I had found a new home.

Selling a house

I have to sell my old home. I want to move closer to my parents living in the other side of the city. It is very hard for me to travel all the way to see them, especially if there is so many hurdles to cross during lockdowns. I contacted a broker who told me he will not be able to help me for another 2 months because all interested parties are not leaving their homes. I wish there was a way that I can move on faster but it looks like I will be stuck here for the rest of the year. I am so stressed and disappointed. In such a big city with so many people, I still have to wait for brokers to have the time and interested parties to see my house. It is a real shame that I can’t sell faster than the timeline they have given me as of now. I went to another broker who told me he will bring two interested people to see my home. I waited for almost a month and have been calling him every day but still, nothing has happened. I told him I will even give him extra commission if he finds a buyer faster but as of now he does not care about the money nor does he care about finding me buyers. My uncle said he knows someone who wants to buy the house. These people are trying to get the house at a huge discount, I will undergo a massive loss if I sell to them. My uncle is now telling me that this is the only buyer so I need to just sell it to them. I need to wait for the right buyer, if I had better help or connections by now I should have sold my home.

Buying a house

I have to buy a home soon. I am sick and tired of living in rented homes, It is time that me and my family put down roots and choose a home to buy. I can see now that it is a buyer’s market and while there are good deals going on I want to buy a home to make the best of these offers by various builders. I have contacted the neighbourhood broker and spoken to a few friends but none of them are able to provide me with the right guidance or help I need to find the right house for me and my family. I have so many questions to ask and I keep looking for someone who can answer them. So far not one person has been able to guide me. I am so busy working on the weekdays. Only weekends I have time to look for homes. In this time there are so many chores to do at home and there is so much office work that I also need to complete. At this rate I will never be able to find a home on my own. I also need to look into home loans and maybe buying a resale home. It is so hard to make all these decisions on your own. I want to be the owner of my dream home, I need help from someone who can understand that and find me a home that I will never regret buying. This is my first big purchase and I cannot afford to make any mistakes when it comes to this. I aim to get my family a home that is big enough and has everything that they need but it should also be within my budget. I need help, or else by now I would have bought my dream home.

Finding a tenant

I have to find a tenant for my house. I depend on rental income now that I am retired. Since the old tenant has left; every month I am now losing money. It breaks my heart to see the house locked up and have no one coming to even visit it. It is high time that I find someone to rent my home. I am old, I can’t go around looking for the right tenant. I have contacted people I know and they all said they will try to help me. So far it has been 4 months and not a single person has come to even see the house or show any interest. I don’t know how I will manage in some time. I hope that I am able to find someone who can pay the amount that I am asking for. My neighbour in that building has told me that this is a very bad time to rent out homes and that I might have to keep looking for at least 2-3 more months. I can’t afford to do that. I think that if things get worse I might have to start borrowing money from people because I am not ready to sell that house either. I also heard that it is easy to sell to people from out of town, but then how do I even reach such people? How to connect with them? I have no idea how all these things work. I wish I had someone who is dedicated to helping me so that by now I would have found a tenant for my house.
