Girija Nagar has seen a rapid growth in last few years. Connectivity via GNT Road and nearby healthcare like Retteri Kumaran Hospital support demand. It’s a safe investment option in North Chennai.
This locality suits my lifestyle perfectly. It’s clean, calm, and mostly residential. Having schools like Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School nearby makes it ideal for families. You don’t get much noise or crowd here, which is a big plus after long workdays.
Girija Nagar is decent but a bit isolated when it comes to public transport. I usually rely on cabs or buses since the metro at Anna Nagar East Metro Station is quite far. It’s peaceful.
Water supply is the only headache here because the municipal supply comes only for an hour at 6 AM. If you miss that morning timing you have to book a private water tanker which costs around 1200 bucks.
Girija Nagar has really good schools within a few minutes distance, which is great. Streets are safe and well lit for evening walks, though the inner roads need some minor patch works done.
Finding a shared auto near Kolathur main road junction takes so much time during the morning rush. The crowd is huge and autos overcharge a lot for short distances, like asking 80 rupees for 2 km.

Markets are so close by that getting fresh vegetables and daily groceries is very easy here. Everything is available within walking distance and the local shops keep the prices reasonable.
The roads around Girija Nagar get totally flooded whenever it rains heavily for even an hour, and water just stays on the streets. Drainage system is completely blocked and nobody comes to clear it up.
Finding a decent parking spot for a car is near impossible on weekends. The streets are narrow and people block the lanes with their own bikes, so better to come by auto or walk.
Rents are decent around here now, easily fetching 18k for a standard 2 BHK flat. Houses get taken up quickly because the location connects well to the railway station side.
Lots of cheap food joints and small mess places are open till 11 PM near the main streets, so dinner is sorted. NGL the area is noisy but it is very manageable for bachelors.
Garbage collection is very irregular, sometimes the bin on the corner just overflows for two days straight. The waste gets scattered on the road... makes the whole lane smell bad.
