DIY Laundry Detergent
Keep your clothes clean and fresh with this homemade laundry detergent. All you need is: a bar of castile soap (or any natural soap), 1 cup washing soda, 1 cup borax, a few drops of lemon essential oil, a storage container.

- Grate the bar of soap using a sharp kitchen grater.
- (Optional) Use a blender to finely chop the soap. Make sure the blender is clean and dry.
- Add the soap, borax and washing soda into the container and give it a good shake.
- Put a few drops of lemon essential oil or any essential oil of your choice. We recommend either lemon or lavender.
- Shake again and your detergent is ready to use.
Tip- Use 1 tablespoon for small loads and 2-3 for bigger ones. It can be used for both machine and hand wash.
DIY Toilet Bowl Cleaner
This nifty homemade toilet bowl cleaner is a great way to naturally leave your bathroom spotless and scented. What you need: ½ cup baking soda, white vinegar, tea tree or lemon essential oil and a toilet bowl brush. We recommend using a mask while you carry out the instructions as baking soda is effervescent and might cause a coughing fit.
Method:
- Pour the baking soda in the toilet bowl, make sure you line the sides too
- Put a few drops of essential oil (of your choice) on the sides of the toilet bowl
- Now slowly add the vinegar and the effervescence will begin
- While still effervescent, use your toilet brush to clean
DIY Dishwashing Liquid
Get dishes that are clean and free of harmful chemical residue with our Homemade Dishwashing Liquid recipe. You need: castile soap or a natural soap bar, liquid soap (unscented or neutrally scented natural varieties), washing soda, essential oil of choice and water.
Method:
- Grate half a bar of natural soap and pour some boiling water into it
- Once dissolved add the washing soda
- Then add some liquid soap, (we prefer unscented but you could use a scented natural variety)
- Let the mixture cool and then pour into a repurposed dishwash squeezy bottle
- Add a few drops of essential oil. If you used scented liquid soap, stick to similar fragrances
- Pour a few drops onto dishes and watch the soap clean away without making your hands rough
DIY Countertop Cleaner
If you’ve wanted your countertops to be dust and grease-free try our homemade countertop cleaner. You need: Vinegar, water, spray bottle and essential oil (optional).
Method:
- Add one part vinegar and one part water to a spray bottle
- Shake vigorously and then add a few drops of essential oil. We recommend lemon or orange for a citrusy fresh fragrance
- Spray on your countertop and use a sponge or cloth to wipe off all the icky grime
