Vastu is quite an important factor when it comes to construction of buildings in hindu families. Not only that, it is crucial to determine the position and placements of many things. It also applies to determining how many doors or windows should be there in a house. In this answer we shall talk about how to count number of doors as per vastu. I will also cover some of the vastu tips for doors in the house. How many doors should be there in a house? When the construction of my house was ongoing, I consulted a vastu expert. He suggested the following things to me:
  • The number of doors as per vastu in a house should be in even number
  • It is preferable to have the number of doors in a house in the multiple of 8s
  • It is best to avoid 10 doors in a house

  • Do not place any obstructions in front of your main door such as a pole, big vase, etc.

Before answering this, I think I should share with you what doors and windows should we count. As per my Vastu expert, we should always count the opening towards the balcony, and main entries. The same goes for windows. We should also count the doors and windows floor wise. There should be 2,4,6,8, (even) no of doors in house as per Vastu. My Vastu expert told me we should always stick to even numbers except for 10. The main doors should have no obstructions. Any plants, trees, staircases, or poles, can impact the positive energy of the house. And it's better to avoid hanging any pictures or depictions of God just outside the door. Windows should be constructed in rooms to ensure that every room is well ventilated. So, doors and windows should be placed in such a way that proper ventilation is possible. I had no idea how to count number of doors as per Vastu when I had our house built. However, I've installed practically everything in accordance with Vastu principles. Fortunately, my neighbour, a Vastu expert, advised me on how to quickly determine the correct number of doors for my house. Find out the number of doors you should have for your home.

How to count doors as per Vastu?

  • My neighbour told me according to Vastu, the number of doors that open into balconies, large open areas, or main entrances should be counted. 
  • The doors should also be calculated by taking the number of floors into account.
  • Be aware that even a sliding door and bathroom door is also regarded as a door in Vastu, and that even is taken into account. 
  • The number of doors in a home ought to always be even and in multiples of two. This means a home must always have 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. doors, but not 10 as already mentioned by Farhan above.
