Homes with adolescent kids know how frequently their glass windows break. My 12-year-old has broken each of my glass windows in our home recently. - So, I have an idea of how to fix broken glass windows. With a little caution and the below process, you'll also be able to transform your broken glass window into a new one.
How to Repair Broken Window Glass?
Gather your Tools: Assemble your tools - gloves, safety glasses, a sturdy putty knife, a razor blade, and some clean rags. Don't forget the replacement glass, cut to size, like your shiny new shield.
Secure the Window: Block the opening with plywood or cardboard. Clear away any loose glass with utmost care.
Remove the Broken Glass: Using your putty knife, gently pry away the old glazing putty of the broken pane. Scrape meticulously, until the frame is smooth and bare.
Prepare the Surface: Apply a thin layer of fresh glazing putty around the frame's edge, then smooth it out.
Install the new Glass: Then carefully lower the replacement glass aligning it perfectly. Press it gently but firmly into the putty moat. Use a clean rag to smooth away any excess putty.
Let it set: Allow the putty to cure for a day or two. Once set, apply a sealant around the edges for extra weatherproofing.
