Hi there,   Do you want to know if you can claim a tax deduction as a pensioner? If this is your query I must tell you that yes, you can claim tax if you are paying rent as a pensioner. But there are certain conditions you need to follow.
  • The rent payment must be more than 10% of your income.
  • Neither you nor your family including your wife, and minor children can own a house in the same city.
  •  You should not be receiving HRA from your employer.
Click here to generate rental receipts from NoBroker!   If you fulfil these conditions, you can claim HRA under Section 80 GGupto 25% of your income but not exceeding Rs 2,000 per month.   I hope I have answered your query. If not you can post your question again on Forum and explain the question in detail.   Read more: How to claim HRA if not mentioned in form 16? How to claim HRA when living with parents?
