How to calculate floor area of a building?

Floor area is the usable area of the land or plot in construction. It is the space taken up by the building. Floor Area Ratio = Total usable building area / gross area of land on which the building is constructed

For instance,

A developer has a 35000 sq ft of land on which he has constructed 5 floors of 10000 sq ft each, the floor area ratio will be calculated as follows:

FAR = (5 X 10000) / 35000

FAR = 1.42
