According to the official website of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC),the current price of one unit of electricity for domestic consumers in Tamil Nadu is Rs. 4.50,

It was decided that there would be an increase in the rate for domestic consumers, but as of now, it has not happened. I have researched it myself a lot and even read about it in a newspaper. So let me share the rates here-

• Domestic consumers enjoy Rs. 4.50 per unit rate for up to 400 units for two months. As of now, the existing tariff is Rs. 3 per unit up to 500 units. The power tariff is supposed to be hiked from this month to 2067-27. It will be based on the inflation rate for all the consumer categories.

• Above 400 units, the charge is Rs 6 per unit up to 500 units of consumption. If the tariff goes up to 600 units, Rs. 8 per unit will be charged.

• If the unit consumption is between 600 and 800 units, Rs. 9 per unit will be charged

• Rs. 10 per unit will be charged if the electricity consumption is between 800 and 1,000 units.

A commercial consumer needs to pay about 11 paise to 21 paise more than the previous unit charge from this month onwards.

In very recent news, I came to know about the changes in TNEB unit rate for house 2023. I read that the power tariff was likely to be raised every year from July 1, 2023 to 2027 on the basis of the inflation for every category of the consumers. I can tell you that for domestic consumers the power charge per unit was fixed at Rs 4.5 0 up to 2 months for every 400 unit of power.
