Grant lands are given by the government or other authority as an incentive, means of enabling work, or as a reward for services to an individual. You must have seen many military personnel or temples have been given grant land.
In case the land is given to the organisation, the legal heir is chosen by the organisation itself. Incase of individuals, the land is transferred according to the Will of the grantee.
