After buying a new apartment in a society/standalone building the most important step is to get the electricity bill name changed to your name from that of the builder. This is important because the electricity bill with your name on it will act as your new address proof document. After you obtain your Khata Certificate you need to now go the Bescom office to get the name changed to your name. For that you will have to find the right Sub Divisional Office of Bescom which services your property. You need to go to the required Bescom office with the following documents : 1. Khata Certificate Copy 2. NOC from Builder 3. ID proof 4. Photo 5. Latest year Property Tax Receipt Copy 6. Khata Copy(With Notary) 7. Sale Deed (With Notary) 8. Electricity Bill 9. Previous Electricity Bill Receipt 10. Photo of Meter (printout) Along with these documents you need to pay Charges of Rs 618 per meter. The cash counter is only open between 10 am to 1:30 pm & 2 :30 pm to 3:30 pm 5. Once the above documents are submitted & the charges are paid, there will be some more forms to be signed at the Bescom office 6. Once all the formalities at the Bescom office are done, you can expect the next month electricity bill in your name.

This is to avoid any obvious mistakes so that your job is done on the first trip and your time need not get wasted. 4. With the required documents approach the JE of your BESCOM subdivision who will prepare the field report. You will have to provide all the details of the installed BESCOM metre to him. He may ask the lineman to visit the premises and check the required details. File the document after his signature with his official seal. 5. After verifying the documents, the person at the 'SOUJANYA' counter will generate a Service Request Id and ask for fees of Rs.100. Attach the receipt in the file. 6. Submit the file to the BESCOM official and create a user ID to track your request status in BESCOM bill payment site. 7. Approximately within 10 days the name is changed. Sometimes it would be much faster and change of name would reflect in the next month's billing cycle.

Hi, I purchased a flat in the Whitefield area of Bangalore, from Sadhguru Developers, during the initial Covid wave that is 2020, January. However, I was pretty confused figuring out various things, and one of them was the process of Bescom name transfer online. During that year, there was a lockdown throughout the country, and none of the offices were opened to offer help explaining the procedure which could allow me to make necessary changes online. This was bothering me when I noticed the above-mentioned solutions regarding the BESCOM name change. Hi there, Before I begin to answer, I would like to thank everyone who has answered this question till now. It was because of all the guidance in these answers that I was able to understand the BESCOM name change process and get the name in my electricity bill changed from that of my builder’s to mine. I must tell you that all of the documents mentioned in the previous answers which are required for the BESCOM name change process online as well as offline are indeed necessary to carry out the name change process smoothly. I have followed the instructions of the answers diligently and I know the practicality of the steps too. And that is what I would like to share here. I had recently purchased a flat in the HSR Layout area in Bangalore for which I had to get my BESCOM meter name transfer online. The process sounds complicated but it isn’t given you have all the necessary documents and you know where and how to proceed with the name change process. I would personally like to thank Mr. Asok for specially mentioning the ‘SOUJANYA’ counter in the BESCOM office. They are very helpful and politely solve all your process-related queries.  Since I live alone, the process took quite some time for me to get completed because it was not feasible for me to visit the BESCOM office for the BESCOM name change process in the timeline I was asked to visit. My sister bought an apartment near Manyata tech park in Bangalore. She started looking for getting things done, such as BESCOM transfer of ownership, Khata registration and others. After a few days of doing some online reading, visiting BESCOM website, calling BESCOM hotline etc, she realised that the BESCOM name change procedure is pretty simple. She got a form to change the name on the electricity bill by visiting the BESCOM electricity board office, followed by getting signature on the NOC for the BESCOM name transfer process. She then got a printed image of her electric meter, and bought 2 bonds, indemnity bond & power agreement. BESCOM requires the applicants to provide these bonds along with application.  After this, she send the application and supporting BESCOM name transfer documents to the appropriate office's administrators. The documents are as follows; sale deed copy, latest property tax receipt, khata copy in owner’s name, latest electricity bill and the paid receipt, electricity meter photo, applicants passport size photo, no objection letter from previous owner/builder, any govt. identity proof copy of applicant, any govt. address proof copy of applicant After the authorities have verified the paperwork and the application form that she provided. A technician visited her home for some additional internal review.  Finally, the BESCOM transfer of ownership was completed and the electricity bill was moved to her name. I recently transferred ownership of meter at my new home in Bangalore from the builder to my father’s name. I was shocked when our builder told me that he can do the name transfer easily. For that, he asked me to pay Rs 3000. So, I decided to do it on my own. After researching, I found the BESCOM name transfer form on the official website of BESCOM Karnataka. I have shared the form along with the steps to transfer the name below.

Steps for BESCOM Name Change Process

I have gone through multiple responses provided above but none of them provided the name transfer form. Click on the below link to get the form: BESCOM Karnataka Transfer of Installation Form After downloading, follow the below steps on how to change BESCOM bill name:
  • Download the above-mentioned form.
  • Read out the General Instructions from page 3.
  • Fill in the required details.
  • Take a print copy of your sale deed, the latest property tax paid receipt, and khata certificate.
  • Keep your and the builder’s passport-size photograph along with the last month's electricity bill before going to the BESCOM office.
  • Ask your builder to provide the original NOC certificate to you.
  • Get the print of a photo of your meter.
  • Click https://bescom.karnataka.gov.in/new-page/Contact%20-%20Us%20-%20BMANZ/kn to visit your local O&M office.
  • Meet and submit the filled form to your AEE.
  • Pay the required charges.
  • Finally, the name transfer is done and it will reflect in the upcoming bill.

Hi Shiv You should go to a notary office to get an indemnity bond on stamp paper. You may need Sale Deed, Tax receipt, Khata Certificate and Govt ID Proof to be notarised. You can check with Soujanya counter of BESCOM. The list of documents that need to be provided for proof is mentioned by Sarmana. In addition, you must complete Pages 1 and 2 before the Office Use section of Form 13.
