One of my tenants recently asked me whether there is gruha jyothi for tenants available. I researched about it and found that yes, with proper proof of address, tenants are eligible to claim the Karnataka Gruha Jyoti Scheme 2023. This scheme's main objective is to reduce electricity costs by providing 200 units of free electricity.
Is There a Griha Jyoti Scheme for Tenants?
Since the Gruha Jyoti initiative is primarily intended for people who own a house in Karnataka, tenants are generally not entitled to claim benefits under it. However, tenants can claim for this scheme if they present proof of address, such as a lease or renting agreement, along with their Aadhar card.
This scheme is also available to both new homeowners and new renters. For new tenants, the eligible limit is 53 units + 10%.
Those who use more than 200 units of electricity on average during the fiscal year will not be eligible for free electricity.
If your monthly usage falls short of or equals their average consumption units, you will not be charged. This applies to consumers whose typical consumption is less than 200 units.
