Summary
To paint metal shutters, begin by removing them and cleaning them thoroughly with soapy water and a scrub brush. After cleaning, use a fine-grit sanding sponge on both sides to create a smooth surface, then rinse and let them dry completely. Apply a spray can primer evenly with vertical and horizontal strokes, allowing it to dry for about 30 minutes. Subsequently, spray a top coat of paint using an HVLP paint sprayer, ensuring even coverage. Once dry, the shutters can be reattached. Essential materials include gloves, a dust mask, a primer, paint, a scrub brush, a sanding sponge, and a paint sprayer.

Hi mate! If you wish to know how to paint metal shutters, this is where you’ll find the solution.

I recently painted my shutters as well. The task took some time but the finish was satisfying. I am also mentioning the materials you’ll need to finish painting.

Things you’ll need

  1. Rubber gloves

  2. Plastic gloves

  3. Protective gloves

  4. Paint

  5. Soap

  6. Dust Mask

  7. Old cardboard piece or wood for practising the use of paint sprayer

  8. Mixing bucket

  9. Spray can primer

  10. HVLP paint

  11. Scrub brush

  12. Screwdriver

  13. Garden Hose

  14. Trigger-action adapter

  15. Sanding sponge

Method

  • To begin, remove the metal shutters with the help of a screwdriver

  • Clean your shutter with soapy water and scrub brush after placing it in a large mixing tub.

  • With the shutter placed in the mixing tub, apply a sanding sponge on both sides. To eliminate scratching the surface, use a fine-grit paper.

  • Let it dry after you hose down the shutter.

  • Repeat the same procedure for the other shutters.

  • Now, wear a dust mask, a pair of plastic gloves and eye protection. Use the spray can primer on the shutters. You can take the help of the trigger-action adapter to reduce pressure on the index finger.

  • Next, spray the primer evenly using both vertical and horizontal strokes. Keep it aside to dry for half an hour.

  • Pour some paint into the HVLP paint gun’s sprayer cup. Place the cup on top of the gun and join the air hose.

  • Begin spraying a top coat on the shutter’s surface. Check the HVLP sprayers for better instructions on the usage.

  • Keep the shutters to dry out completely. Once done, you can reattach them.

I hope this helps:)
