Recently, I wanted my steel almirah to look clean and fresh, so I hired a painter to do the work properly. While he was working, I watched the process carefully. I got an idea of how to paint a steel almirah. I have shared the simple steps below.

1. First, the painter cleaned the steel almirah properly. He removed dust, dirt, and other loose particles from the surface. This helped the paint stick properly to the steel.

2. Next, he checked the old paint on the almirah. Wherever the paint was peeling or damaged, he removed it using sandpaper. He also rubbed the surface to make it smooth.

3. After cleaning the surface, the painter applied a coat of metal primer. He covered the doors, sides, and other parts of the almirah evenly. The primer helps the paint stick better and also protects the steel surface.

4. The painter allowed the primer to dry properly before starting the painting work. He did not apply the paint immediately.

5. Once the primer was dry, he started applying the metal paint. He used a suitable brush and applied the paint evenly. He made sure there were no thick patches or missed areas.

6. After the first coat dried, he applied another coat of paint. This made the colour look better and gave the almirah a smooth finish.

How to Paint Old Steel Almirah at Home?

1. Remove all the items from the almirah as part of the preparation process. After emptying it, clean the almirah with a damp cloth and a dry cloth.

2. Use fine grit sandpaper to remove any rust from the inside and outside of the almirah. 

3. Now, choose the paint for your almirah depending on the space where you are keeping it, such that it compliments the surroundings of that place.

4. I recommend you use spray paint for painting steel as they are comparatively more convenient and easy to apply.

5. You can also get a primer for metals for improved results. Primer helps in removing the rust from the cabinets and also prevents any stains in the future.

6. I also advise you to paint the inner drawers of the almirah by taking them out and then painting them separately.

7. Before you begin painting, use a newspaper and place it below the almirah and drawers to avoid stains on the floor.

8. Keep the drawers and cabinets separately before painting. Use a spray paint and then leave it to dry thoroughly.

9. Then, use a primer spray and let it dry. Place the drawers back into the almirah once all the paint has dried. After this, leave the almirah for the night to set the paint and then start using it the next day.
