Summary
To clean water behind your fridge, safely switch off the power, soak up the water with a dry towel or mop, and dry the floor thoroughly. Check the drain pan and identify the source of the leak. Water may accumulate due to a clogged defrost drain, overflowing drain pan, loose water connection, or cracked pipe. If the leak persists or a pipe is damaged, contact a refrigerator technician.

To clean water from the back of your fridge, start by wiping up the accumulated water, and then identify the source. Water pooling behind your fridge could result from a spill, a blocked drain, or a faulty water line connection. Remember to stay careful around electrical parts during your cleaning process. Below, I have shared how to clean fridge back side water.

How can I Clean Water Behind the Fridge?

  • Turn off your fridge
    • First, make sure the plug and the floor around it are completely dry before unplugging the refrigerator.

    • If you notice any water near the plug or socket, keep your hands away from it. Instead, switch off the power from a safe, dry spot if you can.

  • Shift the fridge into position

: Gently pull it forward only when it is safe and convenient to do so. Avoid pulling it using the power cord or water pipe.

  • Soak up the water:

Get a dry mop, towel, or absorbent cloth and use it to soak up any water that has accumulated.

  • Clean up the floor
    • Wipe down the area with a damp cloth and a bit of mild soap if necessary.

    • Make sure to dry everything thoroughly afterward to keep the floor from becoming slippery and to remove any musty odors.

  • Inspect the drain pan:

Many refrigerators come with a drain pan designed to collect defrost water.

    • If you can reach it easily, follow what the manufacturer recommends for cleaning.

    • Just remember not to remove any sealed panels or mess with electrical parts.

Water can accumulate behind your refrigerator due to several possible causes: a clogged defrost drain, an overflowing drain pan, a loose water supply connection, or a cracked pipe. So, identify the source. However, if the water problem persists, you spot a damaged pipe, or you are unable to locate the cause, reach out to a professional refrigerator technician for assistance.
