The average time to complete interiors for a new apartment is around 90 to 120 days. Most interior designers quote this timeline for a standard 2BHK with no major structural changes. However, this estimate assumes everything goes according to plan. In reality, delays in material delivery, design approvals, site access, labour availability, rework, or festival holidays can easily extend the schedule. From what I have seen, only a small number of projects finish exactly within the original timeline.

How Long Does Each Stage of an Interior Design Project Take?

  • First comes design and finalisation, which usually takes 2 to 4 weeks.

    • Use this time to lock your layout, materials, finishes, and budget.

    • Every change you make after work starts can delay the project by a week or more, so avoid making last-minute decisions.

  • Next is civil work and a false ceiling, which generally takes 3 to 4 weeks. The quality of your builder's handover plays a big role here.

    • If electrical or plumbing points need changes, your contractor must complete those corrections before moving ahead.

  • After that, modular furniture, including the kitchen and wardrobes, takes 4 to 6 weeks.

    • Since factories manufacture these units only after you approve the final design, production takes time.

    • Changing materials or finishes after placing the order can push the timeline back by several weeks.

  • Then comes painting, flooring, and final fittings, which usually take 2 to 3 weeks. Teams often complete these tasks alongside modular installation, but delays in furniture delivery can slow this stage too.

  • Finally, set aside 1 to 2 weeks for snagging and handover. During this period, your contractor fixes minor issues like paint touch-ups, cabinet alignment, loose fittings, and electrical adjustments to ensure everything works properly before you move in.

I hope you know now how long does it usually take to complete interiors for a new apartment.
