Summary
To build a wooden wardrobe, first measure the available space and plan the storage layout. Choose the wood, cut panels for the frame, shelves, dividers, back, and doors, then assemble the frame using wood glue and screws. Add shelves, dividers, doors, drawers, and hardware as needed. Finally, sand the surfaces and apply paint, polish, or laminate. Double-check all measurements before cutting.

If you want to learn how to build a wooden wardrobe, start by measuring the available space and planning the layout. Then cut the wood, put together the frame, add shelves and dividers, and install the doors and hardware. When I was looking for an interior solution for my home, I discovered that establishing the size and storage organisation beforehand made the wardrobe-making process much easier.

How can You Build a Wooden Wardrobe Step by Step?

Before you begin, prepare the following materials:

  1. Plywood or solid wood

  2. Screws and wood adhesive

  3. Hinges and handles

  4. Shelf supports

  5. Sandpaper

  6. Paint, polish, or laminate

Now, follow these steps:

  1. Measure the height, breadth, and depth of the space where you plan to install the wardrobe. Determine how much space you'll need for hanging clothes, shelves, and drawers.

  2. Choose the number of doors, shelves, drawers, and dividers. Make sure the doors have adequate space to open properly.

  3. Use your measurements as a guide to cut the plywood or wood into panels for the sides, top, bottom, back, shelves, and doors.

  4. Construct the frame. Use wood glue and screws to join the side, top, and bottom panels. Check the frame for stability and straightness.

  5. Adjust the shelves and vertical barriers to fit your desired storage layout. For increased stability, use sturdy shelf supports.

  6. To preserve the frame's shape and strengthen the wardrobe, fix the back panel.

  7. Use the appropriate hinges to secure the doors. To make sure they move smoothly, open and close them several times.

  8. If necessary, install drawer channels, knobs, locks, and other fixtures.

  9. Finish the wardrobe. Sand the rough edges and surfaces. Finally, apply paint, polish, or laminate to complete the look.

Before you start cutting on your wardrobe, ensure that all measurements are double-checked. Any tiny miscalculations may pose problems when trying to assemble your wardrobe. If you have decided to build a huge wardrobe or one that’s mounted on the wall, then seeking professional help would be better.
