How To Choose the Right Staircase Granite Moulding Design?

How to choose the right staircase granite moulding design

A staircase is used every day, so the material should do more than just look good. Durability, maintenance requirements, safety, and long-term performance often matter as much as appearance. The right choice depends on where the staircase is located, how frequently it will be used, and who uses it most. Families with children or elderly members, for example, may prioritise slip resistance, while premium homes may focus more on visual appeal and material finishes.

Granite remains one of the most preferred staircase materials because it balances strength, durability, moisture resistance, and low maintenance. It works equally well in indoor and outdoor spaces and is available in finishes that suit both modern and traditional homes. For everyday use, honed or leather-finish granite often provides better grip and comfort than highly polished surfaces, making it a practical choice for family homes. Some decisions you make stick for a while, but some feel like a lifetime. Not to put any pressure on you, but some decisions you make about your home can stick with you for a foreseeable future. A granite marble stairs design is something similar. One of the decisions you will see yourself making or discussing with your partner would be regarding your residential staircase granite design. Some of the factors that can help you select the perfect staircase design are:

  1. Which material and colour would be the ideal choice for the home staircase?
  2. Or which direction should the staircase be as per Vastu?
  3. Which Type of staircase is the best suited for homes?
  4. What all can be kept under the staircase as per Vastu?

Here is answering the first part of your first query!

Which Material Should You Choose for Your Stairs?

After a long hour of online research and long drives to showrooms and stores, you will come across a variety of materials you could choose for your staircase. But which material is best for home staircases? You might ask. Here is the most common answer you will come across: “The most common material these days used for home stairs is granite”. Granite is a material that is highly preferred for domestic staircases, mostly because of its elegant, rich look, robust nature and high resistance to damage. The material has become the most preferred for home stairs due to its low cost and easy maintenance. Natural stone is, any day, the best choice for anything in your house that needs to support a lot of weight. Especially for your Staircases and Kitchen slabs.

Here are the types of materials used for staircases for homes:

  • Granite
  • Wood
  • Glass
  • Concrete
  • Metal

Wooden staircases are in fashion these days, they are the second most preferred material among all indoor staircase design ideas for homes, after granite. Then comes glass, metal and concrete. Not that glass, wood, or concrete would be a bad choice, but when compared to granite stairs, wooden, glass, concrete or metal staircases just don’t seem to match the durability, strength and life of the granite staircase. If you are planning a staircase for your family home, material choice becomes even more critical in compact layouts - a concern explored in detail across various small space staircase design ideas where both safety and footprint matter equally.

Let’s come to your second query:

Which Direction Should Your Staircase Be Placed in Your Home as Per Vastu?

Vastu plays a major role while building a home. As per Vastu when you are planning for an indoor granite stairs design, there are certain focal points in and outside the house with strong energy zones wherein placing the staircases in those areas increases the positive energy in the house and it is also believed that your staircase position can also lead to great financial gains.

Here are a few Vastu recommendations to build a staircase modern granite stairs design:

circular staircases can lead to adverse health effects
  • According to Vastu, it is believed that circular staircases can lead to adverse health effects on family members.
  • You could go for rectangular staircases or square staircases. They are the most preferred shape of steps as per Vastu. The risers should be of medium size, not too short or not too steep.
  • Always build your staircases in the southwest corner of your homes. The Southwest corner receives maximum sunlight with sunshine being maximum towards the top.
  • Construction of the staircase should be in such a way that the person climbing the stairs should always move from east to west or from north to south.
  • Never plan granite moulding designs for stairs near or along with the main door - this is especially relevant for staircase designs in small homes where space constraints often push the staircase close to the entrance. This is considered a major Vastu defect. But just in case you are looking to revamp your home and can’t change the direction of the staircase, place a mirror opposite or facing the staircase.
  • Make sure your internal home staircases do not touch your northern or eastern walls. Vastu also recommends that roofs be built in such a manner that they slope towards the north/east part of the staircase.

In India, not just the staircases, even houses right from the layout structure are planned according to Vastu. People who believe in Vastu say it is the most proven scientific practice. Five basic elements of the universe make Vastu:

  1. Planets
  2. Air
  3. Water
  4. Earth
  5. Fire

Vastu of homes is framed keeping these five elements in mind. You will observe that most principles of Vastu are compliant with the architectural principles of good orientation and design. It is believed that if you build your home as per Vastu, you will lead a prosperous and happy life.

I recently engaged NoBroker Interiors for my home project in Bangalore, and overall, I am quite satisfied with the outcome. Design & Planning: The design phase was well-structured. My designer,Sruthi was attentive to my specific requirements regarding kitchen layout, wardrobe storage, or material choices like MDF/HDF]. They provided practical 3D visualizations that helped me clearly understand how the space would look before installation began. Execution & Quality: The execution team maintained a professional approach. I was particularly impressed with the project management by Vishal who ensured that the workflow was coordinated and that the materials used met the agreed-upon quality standards. The finish of the cabinets and woodwork is neat, and the installation was handled efficiently. Communication & Timelines: What I appreciated most was the transparency in communication. I received regular updates on the project's progress, which gave me peace of mind throughout the renovation. While there were some minor adjustments needed during the installation phase, the team was cooperative and addressed these tweaks without creating unnecessary delays.

Mrityunjay has handled project execution phase very well. he is very collaborative and approachable. this rating is only for mrutyunjay for project execution phase . nobroker sales team and design team are worst. i would give 0 rating to them. prakruthi and her manager soumya from sarjpauara design team are worst, they stop picking your call and reply to you after 100% payment. there were so many design issues done by prakruthi. if she is your designer, better not go with nobroker . you can do better your self than her. they have very very very limited color options for laminates, and you wil not like any. you should ask them to show laminate and if they are giving that exact laminate for the estimate they are quoting. you must take that in writing before paying single penny. nobroker is over all worst. i would suggest not to go ahead with them.

The execution was neat and clean, all members coordinated efficiently. What stood out is that I have never made any visit for monitoring or checking the status of work. If I were to suggest an area of improvement then it would be providing more guidance on suitable color combinations and design asthetics. Having expert recommendations on color schemes would have enhanced overall experience. Additionally price is slightly higher but considering the professionalism and hassle free experience it is worth the investment.

Overall, I had a good experience with NoBroker Interiors. While I felt a few aspects of the interior work could have been better in terms of value for money, the team was very supportive throughout the process. A special mention to Manoj from the execution team and Abhilash from the design team — both were extremely polite, professional, and helpful. They were responsive to concerns and ensured smooth coordination during the project. Despite a few areas for improvement, the overall experience was positive.

Recently we have done our interior through NoBroker Interiors, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The team handled everything smoothly — from design discussions to final execution A big thank you for Manoj, our Project Manager, Harsha, Manager and Tarun - Designer who was the true driving force behind the successful completion of our interiors. Manoj is experienced, knowledgeable, and extremely diligent in his work. He ensured every detail was executed to perfection — from carpentry and fittings to electrical and service requirements. One suggestion to NoBroker is please do not assign multiple projects to one project manager. It will impact all the projects.

I would like to sincerely appreciate Shubhangi Patil (Wakad office - PUNE) for her exceptional support throughout my 2BHK interior planning and design journey. From the very beginning, her professionalism, intelligence, and structured way of working stood out clearly. What I admired the most was her strong focus on making the designs cost-effective and budget-friendly, without ever compromising on aesthetics, quality, or overall look and feel. She showed a great understanding of my requirements and aligned them beautifully with practical design solutions. Her attitude, kindness, and patience—especially during discussions and negotiations—were truly commendable. She handled everything with maturity and empathy, always keeping my best interest in mind. It genuinely felt like she was as invested in the project as I was. I was assigned to her as a customer, and I must say she delivered exactly the level of service I was expecting from NoBroker. She perfectly aligned my vision and matched the energy and commitment of the NoBroker team, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. It was a fantastic journey working with her, and I am extremely happy and satisfied with the support she provided throughout the design process. We had our interior work done through NoBroker Interior last year, and I’d like to share an honest and straightforward review. Here are the aspects that matter most to me: 1. Design 2. Execution 3. Quality of Materials 4. Quality of Work 5. Adherence to Timeframe 6. Adherence to Commitments 7. Ownership and Proactiveness Considering all of the above: • 80% of the aspects exceeded my expectations, and I’m genuinely delighted with the results. • 10% met my expectations, and I’m satisfied with the outcome. • I was dissatisfied with 8–10% of the aspects. (I understand that the interior segment has its own challenges, but there is scope for improvement.) One thing I absolutely want to emphasize: I can fully trust them to give me the right advice. Time and again, I’ve noticed that when there’s a potential conflict between my best interests and increasing their invoice, their guidance has always been aligned with what’s best for me. That level of integrity really stands out. Kudos to the team for that! I also want to call out Shilpa Panchal, the Principal Designer, for her hard work, patience, and commitment to the project. P.S. My rating is 4.5 out of 5, but Google does not allow fractional ratings. This review was originally written about 8 months ago, soon after the project was completed, and is being reposted due to operational reasons.
