Most people consider teak wood to be the best door wood but it's quite expensive. As doors should be made strong so we hired a carpenter to consult about which wood would be best for crafting doors based on our budget. He suggested three options: sissoo, mango wood, and ash wood, and mentioned their major aspects. Let me share them here.

Which is the Best Wood for Door Frame?

The best wood for main door are teak, red sal, and honne wood, but since these are quite expensive, here are some more affordable options you can choose:

Sissoo (Indian Rosewood):ย

Sissoo wood is a robust and dense option for doors in India. With a strong resistance to termites and decay, it is often chosen for its durability and attractive grain patterns, offering an alternative to teak. A large number of people opt for this wood instead of teak so you can choose this for your doorsโ€™ frames.

Mango Wood:ย

Known for its sustainability and affordability, mango wood is gaining popularity for doors. It has a light to medium-brown colour and a fine grain, making it suitable for various door styles, especially in interior applications. If you are looking for affordable yet durable wood for your doors, go for mango wood.ย

Ash Wood:ย

Ash wood is known for its strength and versatility. It has a light colour and straight grain, allowing for easy staining or painting to achieve different aesthetic preferences. This is a good wood for doors and is a good choice for both interior and exterior doors due to its durability and workability.ย

After much thought, we chose ash wood for the doors in our house. You can choose from any of these options based on your requirements and budget.

Doors not only enhance the look of the room but also protect you from any outside elements. If I talk about Indian doors, one of the most common materials for building doors is wood. However, since there are different types of wood available in the market today, choosing the best one could be difficult. To make it easy for you, I will tell you which is the best wood for doors.

ย Teak wood:

Teak wood is very popular for doors among homeowners because itโ€™s durable and easy to maintain. Plus, itโ€™s versatile and can be used in multiple ways. The superior class teak wood options include Malabar, Balarsha, and Dandeli.

Sal wood:

Sal wood is considered to be one of the heaviest and strongest types of wood that is used to make doors and window frames. Plus, it is resistant to white ants, fungus, and also towards any type of infestation even for a longer duration of time. Sal wood is suitable for constructing especially the beams, door frames, and piles.

Deodar wood:

Deodar wood is very easy to saw and work upon when it comes to smooth finishes. However, the deodar wood isnโ€™t considered to be a suitable choice when it comes to polishing or paint finish because after it has been painted or polished, it would start releasing the oil after some time.

Now you can decide which wood is best for doors.
