Hi Aarthi,
A rough proposal is a good starting point, but you should never sign it if the scope of work is too general. Simple words like "complete modular kitchen" or "full bedroom interiors" do not clearly explain what you will actually get. This can create confusion later.
Ask the designer to write every item in detail. For the kitchen, the proposal should mention the number of cabinets
Lofts
Drawers
Shutters
Shelves
Countertop
Sink Unit
Chimney Space
Hardware Brand Accessories Included.
If something is not included, it should also be written clearly.
For bedrooms, ask them to mention the wardrobe size, internal shelves, drawers, hanging space, lofts, dressing unit, study table, TV unit, side tables, or any other furniture they will make. The proposal should also mention the material, laminate finish, handles, and hardware.
The same applies to the living room.
If they are making a TV unit, shoe rack, crockery unit, or false ceiling, every item should be listed with proper details.
Do not accept words like "as required" or "standard design." They are too unclear.
Also ask for details about electrical work, plumbing changes, painting, lighting, wallpaper, mirrors, and installation. Check whether transportation, labour, site cleaning, and GST are included in the price.
The proposal should also mention the project timeline, payment schedule, warranty, and what happens if the work gets delayed. Ask them to write how they will handle design changes after work starts because extra changes may increase the cost.
A detailed scope of work protects both you and the designer. It reduces misunderstandings and helps you know exactly what you are paying for. If you compare different companies, you will also be able to compare the same items instead of guessing what each proposal includes. Even if you choose a professional service like NoBroker Interiors or any other interior company, always ask for a detailed written scope before making the final payment or signing the agreement.

Hey Jagdeesh. I will be able to tell you what to expect from interior design consultation. See, during the consultation phase, the designer will focus on understanding your needs and presenting you with the scope of work based on the area and the kind of work you are looking for. Here, the designer will make a concept design and will take space planning into consideration. I will share the rest below.
What to Expect from Interior Designer?
Design and Selection: Once the consultation is over and you are moving ahead with the project, the designer starts to work on the house design and takes you through the materials for various sections like flooring, lighting, wall covering and others.
Budget and Time: The budget is set accurately to make the final decisions on materials, finishes and the design. A timeline is also given to you for the work completion.
Documenting: The designer sets off to develop detailed reports around the finalised layouts, finishes, materials and adds all the other important sections of the work.
Project Management: The designer will be managing the whole project, sourcing workers and materials and setting a flow of work with the team.
Quality: The designer looks after the quality of the work from time to time, ensuring all the desired standards are met.
Reviewing and Closing: The project is reviewed by the designer and then by the client until they are satisfied with the final output. The project is then closed.
I hope this helps.
