It is not advisable to buy plots without DTCP approval. The district government warned the public to steer away from unapproved layouts due to an increase in dishonest real estate agents developing plots in forest or mountainous areas and citizens from villages requesting civic utilities in unapproved layouts.

The district collector of Coimbatore issued public advice recommending individuals not to purchase land plots that have not been approved by the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) or the Local Planning Authority (LPA).

Officials say the collector's office is frequently inundated with petitions from people seeking civic amenities in unapproved layouts or a refund from their real estate agent, but after close examination, it is determined that the land is not approved and that people should not have built their homes on it, so no civic amenities or facilities, such as streetlights, drainage, electricity, or water pipelines, will be provided in the unapproved layouts. People should check with the DTCP or LPA office before purchasing land to see if it has been approved.
