Summary
To achieve a perfect gloss finish on wood, you need to prepare the surface, apply coats of finish, and then polish. This involves sanding the wood with progressively finer grits of sandpaper, typically starting with 150-grit and moving up to 1000-grit for wet sanding, and using a wood grain filler if necessary. Apply two coats of polyurethane, allowing each to dry completely before applying a final coat of undiluted gloss. A gloss finish protects the wood from marks and scratches, making it ideal for high-traffic areas like kitchen countertops and refreshing the appearance of older furniture. Essential supplies include various grits of sandpaper, a power sander, lacquer or varnish, dry cloths, gloves, brushes, and potentially mineral spirits for thinning.

Hey,

I have wooden cabinets, a bookshelf, a centre table, and a countertop in my house. All the furniture has gloss paint finish on wood. I think the finish brings out the natural beauty of the wood. It makes the surface seem shiny. When the flossy finish begins to wear off, I call for the carpenter and get everything polished with varnish.
