How to Decorate a Farmhouse?

A perfectly decorated space that gives peace that is indescribable. On top of it, if you own a farmhouse, a certain amount of peace is already attached to it. My uncle owns a farmhouse and I always tend to find reasons to visit his farmhouse. It is my abode for every weekend. And every time I visit, I either redecorate the farmhouse or keep looking for ways in which the farmhouse can be decorated in a different and more elegant manner. And I would love to share some of my farmhouse decor ideas with you.

You must always have a very simple yet practical mindset to decorate a farmhouse. Check out the following ideas on decorating a farmhouse.

• Use neutral colours on the walls:

  Using neutral colours on the walls of a farmhouse gives it a very calm and elegant appearance. Use cream, beige or grey tones on the walls of each room. Avoid using different colours in different rooms.

• Add dimension and patterns:

  Most farmhouses stand out with textured walls which are full of dimensions. You can also use shiplap, wainscotting or beadboard to give it a more vintage and practical look. I have added a beadboard to almost every wall of my uncle’s farmhouse.

• Use vintage decor items:

  Using vintage decor items gives a farmhouse a more realistic touch. You can replace modern flower vases with vintage flower vases. Use mirrors and chandeliers which give a vintage look too.

• Avoid bright colours:

  Using bright and cheeky colours can spoil the mood of your farmhouse appearance. It will disregard the cosy and calm look which a neutral colour will give to a farmhouse which is the most important specialisation of a farmhouse.

• Use wood:

  Make use of wood in various decor items for your farmhouse. It automatically gives a very antique look to the place.

• Repaint Old Furniture:

  You can reuse your old furniture by painting them in a new colour which matches the colours of the rooms of the farmhouse.

• Use distressed furniture:

  It is not always necessary to repaint or restructure all your old furniture. Using old and distressed furniture also gives a vintage and calming look to the farmhouse.

These are some ideas which I incorporated while deciding on farmhouse decor for my uncle’s farmhouse. I hope they come in handy to you too.
