As we've mentioned many times, windows are a home's "eyes," and window treatments are its "brows," framing the entire area, regulating light filtration, and providing additional seclusion. If you're thinking about redecorating your cooking space, a kitchen curtain or shade might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but they can have significant effects.

The kitchen is a vital aspect of many households because it is where we prepare the majority of the food we eat as a family. Any kitchen, no matter how big or little, may benefit from a dash of zing to liven things up and add visual appeal. By their very nature, kitchens are helpful, but they also yearn for a personal touch, which is why window treatments for the kitchen are an excellent way to provide just that. To draw attention to this often-overlooked stage, we've compiled a list of our favourite kitchen curtain designs. Keep reading for kitchen curtain ideas that are both functional and fashionable.

Kitchen Window Treatments: What to Look For

credits: img.staticmb.com You can find stylish sheer kitchen curtains online that allow the light to pass through while at the same time beautifying your windows

Both curtains and blinds can cover the windows in your home. Consider your unique tastes and needs before making a final decision. Blinds are the way to go if you're looking for a way to manage light while maintaining privacy. When draped, floor-length or shorter, valence-length curtains can highlight and emphasise a window's shape and size.

Indeed, some folks don't use blinds or curtains at all. The kitchen window can look dreary if you don't use sleek and contemporary drapes or shades.

When Should You Choose Kitchen Blinds?

credits: www.remodelista.com Bamboo kitchen blinds are a great way to add some earthy touch to the space and are very common in modern Asian kitchens

If you don't want to have to remove your curtains every time you want to clean them, then blinds are a fantastic option. Remove-and-wipe cleaning is an option for those who have blinds. A set of blinds can be easily adjusted to meet your demands for light filtering and seclusion. Installing cordless blinds might help prevent mishaps and damage to your window covering if you have pets or small children.

If you have a window over a stove, sink, or in an area that is likely to get splashed with water, vinyl or faux wood blinds are excellent options.

Bright white blinds are commonly used in kitchens to maximise light reflection within the room. Most blinds are corded or cordless to provide a view of the outside world. Blinds may be quickly lowered or raised to bring light into your home without allowing anybody else to see inside. White blinds are a classic choice for various architectural styles, including industrial, contemporary, modern, and country homes.

Double-layered blinds are an excellent option to block out lighter and create a sense of privacy. A modern or classic home with large windows and open surroundings is ideal for this type of blind. You may let in enough light and adjust as necessary for your personal comfort.

When used as kitchen blinds, bamboo is a beautiful and eco-friendly material. This versatile style of window covering is visually pleasing and simple to clean; just be careful not to allow the blinds to become too wet. Wood or plant-based blinds in varying shades of brown are elegant and perform well in various kitchen designs.

What Types of Blinds are Perfect for Kitchens?

The ideal kitchen blinds should be long-lasting, attractive, and simple to clean with a moist cloth. Blinds made of vinyl, artificial wood, or bamboo are commonly used in kitchens because of their low maintenance and attractive appearance. Choose blinds with flat or concave slats and a rolling or cordless mechanism to reduce glare.

What's the Purpose of the Curtains in the Kitchen?

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Regarding kitchen curtains, there are two ways to look at their value. Functionality and visual impact are two separate considerations.

A curtain's primary function is to block sunlight or keep a draught out of the room. Furthermore, it protects privacy, preventing outsiders from seeing what is happening.

Kitchen curtains, of course, follow the same logic. To reduce glare from the outside, draping a curtain across the top of the sink's window is typical.

When promoting kitchen curtains decades ago, this aim was made clear. Aesthetics have become a significant selling point in the past few years.

Adding curtains to a drab kitchen is common to make it more visually appealing. Window curtains can enhance the overall energy in your kitchen, depending on the theme or colour palette you choose. In addition, it's a clear indication of your style.

Are curtains for the kitchen an antiquated feature?

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Designing modern homes simply has made specific previous trends obsolete. Other window treatments were used instead of curtains in the kitchen. Cooking with curtains is seen as a relic of a bygone era by many others.

On the other hand, interior designers have come up with imaginative solutions to bring back curtains as a kitchen's main point. As a result, kitchen curtains aren't out of date or unattractive. Even in terms of style and interior decoration, they are still relevant today.

The kitchen curtain is an integral part of the overall décor of a classic-style home. There is a perception that traditional designs are snug and welcoming. On the other hand, modernists like cleaner looks that go well with current fashions. Similarly, some designs combine the two styles.

Kitchen Curtain Designs That Are Still Popular

1. Cafe Curtain

Kitchen Curtains Designs
credits: cdn.apartmenttherapy.info Half kitchen blinds curtains offer you the perfect balance between aesthetics and privacy

Rings are usually used to hang these kitchen curtains, inspired by roadside cafes' window curtains. They might be plain or adorned with headers or pleated at the apex.

There are two types of cafe curtains: full-window curtains and half-window curtains. If you're looking for a cafe curtain that covers the entire window, this is the one for you. The rod is attached to the top area of the window, either near the top or the very top.

However, a half-window just covers the window's bottom portion, with the rod positioned in the middle. Some homeowners will install a full-window café curtain if they want ultimate privacy. To maximise the natural light entering the kitchen, the half-window version is preferred.

2. Curtains with valances

Kitchen Curtains Designs
credits: i.pinimg.com If you do not want a full-length curtain, then go for handmade valances like these to add a romantic touch

Window treatments such as curtains and other lengthy window coverings are topped off with valances. When they imagine an old-fashioned kitchen curtain, people often envision Victorian-style lace valance curtains with brightly printed flowers. But there are many designs nowadays that defy this notion, such as:

A. Balloon or Cloud Valance

Kitchen Curtains Designs

The balloon or cloud valance is ideal if you're looking for a fun, energetic look for your kitchen window. The balloon-shaped valance curtain is commonly coupled with café curtains.

B. Swag Valance

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Pleated or folded on both sides, the swag valance's fabric creates a half-circle in the middle and hangs freely at the edges. To give the impression that it is more formal, intricate patterns are frequently printed on it.

C. Scalloped Valance

Kitchen Curtains Designs
credits: m.media-amazon.com Scalloped valance curtains add some shape and symmetry to drab kitchen cabinets

The elegance of a scalloped valance cannot be overstated. Scallop seashells have a semi-circle shape on the bottom of this particular variety.

D. Ascot Valance

Kitchen Curtains Designs

An ascot valance is a good choice if you want something simple but elegant. It has triangle edges that point downward. A longer curtain looks great with this style.

E. Valance with Box pleated edges

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Valances with box pleats have a straight edge and pleated pants that resemble little boxes. Alternatively, you can design your box pleats' valance and attach it to a board or a rod.

3. Long Drapes That Reach Your Feet

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Floor-length drapes may be a good option if you have a lot of floor space and windows. Regardless of how hot or cold it gets outside; you'll be well-protected with this umbrella. It also ensures complete privacy. It can also elevate the kitchen if done correctly.

4. The tops of tabs

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Window curtains with top loops are standard in rustic kitchens. These loops are meant to be large and spread over a large area. Installing and supporting curtain rods is made easier with this product. If you're looking for a kitchen curtain with a touch of a country feel, this one's for you.

When should You Choose Kitchen Curtains?

Kitchen Curtains Designs
credits: hips.hearstapps.com large windows are the perfect backdrop for some romantic or rattan-inspired kitchen blinds

If a kitchen window is long, has an open design, or has an odd form that wouldn't work with blinds, curtains are a better option than blinds. To frame a window beautifully, curtains allow you to play with patterns, colours, and opaqueness. Consider floor-length, valance, panel, or grommet-pleated curtains to best fit your space if you have a large window.

A valance that hangs from the top of the window provides the smallest amount of protection. It's perfect for a window where you don't care about privacy but still want a lot of light. The drapery and colour of a valance can also be used to draw attention to a window and make it the room's main point.

Long, floor-sweeping curtains are ideal if the window is off to the side and not directly in front of a stove or sink. A set of drapes highlights the best visual elements of a kitchen's oddly shaped or big windows. Adding translucent curtains to a window with a beautiful view is a great way to add visual interest to the room.

In addition to providing seclusion, a balloon-style valance adds some flair and a sense of history to a kitchen sink window. The bottom valence may be easily adjusted to give a view of the outside world, potted plants on a windowsill, and natural light to pass through.

Is It Possible to Use Curtains on Top of Blinds?

Kitchen Curtains Designs
credits: encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com Kitchens always benefit from layered curtain coverings

If you'd like to put curtains over a set of blinds, that's fine. The additional layer of light filtering, seclusion, and visual interest provided by curtains over blinds are invaluable. Layering window coverings are best done with sheer curtains to allow the blinds and light to pass through, unless you want light and prying eyes to be blocked from coming in. Combining drapes and blinds creates an eye-catching design element that can never go out of style, especially when done correctly.

How to Cover an Open Kitchen with Curtains?

If you're looking for a way to add some privacy to your open kitchen, curtains for an open kitchen can be a great solution! To cover an open kitchen with curtains, you'll first need to measure the area you want to cover and choose a curtain rod that will fit the space. Then, pick out curtains that complement your kitchen's decor and fit the size of your rod.

Next, install the curtain rod above your kitchen opening and hang your curtains. If you want to keep the curtains open during the day, you can use tiebacks or hooks to secure them to the sides of the opening. If you prefer to keep them closed, you can use a tension rod to hold the curtains in place.

Stylish And Bright Kitchen Curtain Ideas

Don't put up with another day of dishwashing, preparing your favourite foods, sipping your cup of coffee next to plain, or may we say, dull windows any longer. To find out how to transform your kitchen into the focal point of your house, peruse our collection of kitchen curtain ideas.

1. Shades with a Soft Sheerness

Kitchen Curtains Designs
credits: hips.hearstapps.com For a monochrome look, Roman-inspired blinds are the best

Choose grayscale Roman shades for your kitchen if you're going for a monochrome look as this one does. When it comes to upkeep, full-length drapes or tie-back curtains are a formula for disaster above a countertop desk, but these are a better solution. The addition of the black trim brings a sense of sophistication to the whole place.

2. Install a Valance with Lace Trim.

Kitchen Curtains Designs

The lace-trimmed curtain adds a sense of romantic whimsy to any area, making it particularly well-suited for a farmhouse-style home, a shabby-chic refuge, or a rustic lodge in the woods. It's impossible to overstate the impact a simple white valance with draped edges can have on a room's atmosphere.

3. Dramatically Upgrade The Colour Template

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Curtains may do more than just keep light and prying eyes out of a room; they can inject a little personality into the decor by adding a flourish of pattern or colour. The window treatments in your kitchen can be a great way to add some colour to the room. The red and white striped curtains are used to add colour to this country kitchen diner, echoing in the signature red dining chairs.

4. Invite the outside in with a splash of green.

Kitchen Curtains Designs

There's a growing need for spaces that seamlessly integrate the indoor and outdoor worlds, and kitchens are often located at the back of the house, making them ideal candidates for sliding glass doors. Consider using light and contemporary fabric in a fashionable shade of green to tie in with the landscape beyond the window. Adding a discrete curtain for optional seclusion does not need to break the contemporary atmosphere. Bay window curtain options that feature green or nature-inspired fabrics and patterns are also good choices.

5. Gingham Kitchen Curtains In Geometric Print

Kitchen Curtains Designs

This is one of the most effective curtain ideas for kitchen windows because it gives you the option to entirely obstruct the view through the upper part of the window by creating a valance in that area. You can close or open the movable curtains that cover the lower half of the window as desired.

6. A Layered Kitchen Curtain with a Tailored Design

Kitchen Curtains Designs

This gorgeous grey and white contrasting colour scheme is featured on a modern, constructed banded tier pair with pick-up Valance. The polyester material has a lovely ground texture, making it an excellent choice for use in the kitchen. This item features a rod pocket and can be cross-coordinated with the panel in other rooms across the house.

7. Kitchen Drape in a Single Colour with Ruffles

Kitchen Curtains Designs

With this extra luxury countryside-themed kitchen drape tier and swag valance combination, you can add a dash of rustic farmhouse style to your kitchen. With its ruffled trimmed edges, this product has the appearance of being custom made but at a fraction of the cost.

8. Tie-Back Combination Kitchen Curtains with Floral Swag

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Curtains are a must in every area of your home since they enhance the aesthetic and the atmosphere of the place. For instance, this set has a flowery pattern that adds a touch of natural beauty to the whole look. Each piece, which includes two curtains, two tie-backs, and a valance, is crafted from polyester resistant to fading and stains. In addition, the header of each piece consists of a rod pocket, which makes it simple to hang the item using the rod of your choosing.

9. Gold Yellow Grey Patterned Garden Vibe Custom Kitchen Curtains

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Choose drapes for your kitchen that have a contemporary look and a design that looks like an abstract ink painting. They have a design that is both timeless and sophisticated, making them an excellent choice for any kitchen. Even though they are not lined, the triple-weave construction of these drapes will assist in suppressing noise from the outside and give adequate privacy. It blocks the potentially dangerous ultraviolet rays from the sun from reaching your flooring and furniture. It also effectively blocks the passage of heat or cold from the outside, making your home more energy efficient. The texture of the cloth is exceptionally smooth and comfortable to the touch.

10. Grips Attached to Half-Curtains

Kitchen Curtains Designs

You're looking for something simple yet fashionable, aren't you? This do-it-yourself curtain design idea for the kitchen is exactly what you should go with. A piece of fabric should be hung over the other half of your windows. Make adjusting your curtains simpler and give them a more casual appearance by using hooks.

11. Prints That Can Be Coordinated

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Use it everywhere if you've found the perfect print that you just can't live without. That's what we say. Matching the curtains in your kitchen, dining room, and living room gives the impression that your home was professionally decorated. You can purchase curtain sets or have custom curtains manufactured to get this style.

12. Add in Some Timeless Roman Shades

Kitchen Curtains Designs
credits: cdn.decorpad.com Nothing speaks timeless elegance more than Roman shades in soft hues

If you find that hanging draperies clutter up your space, you might consider switching to a design style that provides shade and privacy in a less cumbersome way. Roman shades are a form of window covering made of fabric that can be raised or lowered using a cable system and rings attached to the rear of the covering. When elevated, the cloth folds into even horizontal stacks, giving the appearance of having been professionally finished.

13. Mini Roman Shades may also be an option.

Kitchen Curtains Designs
credits: www.mydomaine.com Opt for mini curtains if you want lots of natural lights in your kitchen

One advantage of Roman shades is that they can be purchased in various lengths to accommodate every window in your house. Although you have the option of extending a single shade across numerous windows, we think it looks much better if you divide the windows and use some different Roman blinds instead.

14. Happy Moods With A Tinted Balloon Window Valance

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Curtain valances are a simple way to inject more individuality into your favourite locations, whether by adding another level of appeal to your window treatments or improving the view of the outdoors. Take this ombre pleated curtain, for example: Made of polyester, it features ruffles on the top and tassels on the bottom. In addition to the two-toned ombre pattern, a rod pocket at the top can be used in conjunction with a hanging rod.

These curtains are so thick that you can feel them, yet they are soft and silky to the touch.

16. Scalloped Kitchen Window Valance in a Neutral Shade

This curtain valance includes soaring folds and a ruffled header inspired by falling waterfalls. Its polyester fabric is a low-cost substitute for natural silk. A touch of vintage flair is added to its ends by scalloped embellishments, and blackout light screening helps to reduce the glare caused by the sun.

Are Curtains Still Used in Kitchens?

Curtains have been a staple in kitchens for decades, and they continue to be a popular choice for homeowners today. Not only do they provide privacy and light control, but they can also add a decorative touch to the space.

While some people opt for other window treatments like blinds or shades, curtains can add warmth and style to the space. From sheer and light to more substantial drapes, there are a variety of options to choose from that can match your kitchen decor.

From simple and minimalist to bold and patterned, there are many different styles of kitchen curtains to choose from to match your decor. Sheer curtains can create an airy and light atmosphere, while thicker drapes can add warmth and texture. Plus, with modern fabric options and innovative hardware designs, curtains can be a versatile and practical addition to any kitchen.

Now that you have a clear idea about the various types of kitchen curtains, you can play mix n match with multiple styles to create designs that complement your kitchen's interiors. If you are unsure which type to go for, NoBroker interior designers can help you with the same. All you have to do is give us a call!

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

-1 What colour curtains should you choose for your kitchen?toggle icon
A-1 With a basic pattern in a neutral hue like white or beige and a neutral base colour like grey or beige, your kitchen will look fantastic. Yellow, blue, orange, green, red, purple, and even pink are frequently used to design kitchens.
-2 What colour should the curtains be concerning the walls?toggle icon
A-2 Light-coloured walls look best with dark-coloured curtains. It's oppressive to have black walls and black drapes. Black, brown, and grey aren't the only shades of dark that may be found in curtains. Modern and trendy shades of blue can also be found in dark curtains and specific shades of red and purple.
-3 What is the ideal length for kitchen drapes?toggle icon
A-3 The drop length of your valence should fall between 18" and 24" long, according to one prevalent school of thinking. If you have a low window and ceiling, or if you're utilising the valance as an accent, a drop of 16" or less is acceptable.
-4 Should kitchen drapes extend beyond the window sill?toggle icon
A-4 The fabric should just be a half-inch or so off the ground. While long drapes may not be practical in places like the kitchen or bathroom, café curtains can be a terrific alternative.
-5 Is it true that white curtains look well with anything?toggle icon
A-5 Any darker colour with comparable undertones will work with white because it is considered neutral. If you have cool-toned walls, go with white or 'natural' white window coverings, whereas beige-coloured curtains or blinds look better with warm-toned walls.

Mrityunjay has handled project execution phase very well. he is very collaborative and approachable. this rating is only for mrutyunjay for project execution phase . nobroker sales team and design team are worst. i would give 0 rating to them. prakruthi and her manager soumya from sarjpauara design team are worst, they stop picking your call and reply to you after 100% payment. there were so many design issues done by prakruthi. if she is your designer, better not go with nobroker . you can do better your self than her. they have very very very limited color options for laminates, and you wil not like any. you should ask them to show laminate and if they are giving that exact laminate for the estimate they are quoting. you must take that in writing before paying single penny. nobroker is over all worst. i would suggest not to go ahead with them.

The execution was neat and clean, all members coordinated efficiently. What stood out is that I have never made any visit for monitoring or checking the status of work. If I were to suggest an area of improvement then it would be providing more guidance on suitable color combinations and design asthetics. Having expert recommendations on color schemes would have enhanced overall experience. Additionally price is slightly higher but considering the professionalism and hassle free experience it is worth the investment.

I would like to sincerely appreciate Shubhangi Patil (Wakad office - PUNE) for her exceptional support throughout my 2BHK interior planning and design journey. From the very beginning, her professionalism, intelligence, and structured way of working stood out clearly. What I admired the most was her strong focus on making the designs cost-effective and budget-friendly, without ever compromising on aesthetics, quality, or overall look and feel. She showed a great understanding of my requirements and aligned them beautifully with practical design solutions. Her attitude, kindness, and patience—especially during discussions and negotiations—were truly commendable. She handled everything with maturity and empathy, always keeping my best interest in mind. It genuinely felt like she was as invested in the project as I was. I was assigned to her as a customer, and I must say she delivered exactly the level of service I was expecting from NoBroker. She perfectly aligned my vision and matched the energy and commitment of the NoBroker team, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. It was a fantastic journey working with her, and I am extremely happy and satisfied with the support she provided throughout the design process. I truly hope she continues to deliver the same level of dedication, quality, and customer care to all clients who approach NoBroker with trust. Thank you, Shubhangi Patil, for your excellent support and commitment.

We had our interior work done through NoBroker Interior last year, and I’d like to share an honest and straightforward review. Here are the aspects that matter most to me: 1. Design 2. Execution 3. Quality of Materials 4. Quality of Work 5. Adherence to Timeframe 6. Adherence to Commitments 7. Ownership and Proactiveness Considering all of the above: • 80% of the aspects exceeded my expectations, and I’m genuinely delighted with the results. • 10% met my expectations, and I’m satisfied with the outcome. • I was dissatisfied with 8–10% of the aspects. (I understand that the interior segment has its own challenges, but there is scope for improvement.) One thing I absolutely want to emphasize: I can fully trust them to give me the right advice. Time and again, I’ve noticed that when there’s a potential conflict between my best interests and increasing their invoice, their guidance has always been aligned with what’s best for me. That level of integrity really stands out. Kudos to the team for that! I also want to call out Shilpa Panchal, the Principal Designer, for her hard work, patience, and commitment to the project. P.S. My rating is 4.5 out of 5, but Google does not allow fractional ratings. This review was originally written about 8 months ago, soon after the project was completed, and is being reposted due to operational reasons.

This is about final execution (deployment) of the project. The guy who handled the project is very good.he speaks politely but he need more experience and exposure. The carpenters who came to fix are not so professionals, they are ok. Overal the interior project is very good.it couldbe better.
