Understanding the cost of redoing bathroom spaces in India can be tricky, as prices vary widely depending on design, materials, and labour. In most homes, a bathroom renovation can cost anywhere from ₹50,000 to ₹5,00,000 or more. This guide breaks down everything you need to plan your budget smartly and choose the right upgrades, whether you want a basic refresh or a complete luxury remodel.

What Influences the Cost of Redoing Bathrooms?

Cozy redoing bathrooms style with floral tiles and wood shelving.
Warm redoing bathrooms aesthetic with mosaic details and gold trim.

Several elements impact the renovation of your bathroom. Key cost drivers include:

  • Size of the bathroom: Larger bathrooms require more tiles, more plumbing, and more labour.
  • Material quality: The type of tile, sanitaryware, and fittings heavily influences cost. Budget ceramic tiles are cheaper than designer or imported options. Understanding bathroom tiles design and price helps make an informed choice.
  • Plumbing complexity: Whether you’re redoing plumbing, shifting pipes, or opting for concealed piping makes a big difference.
  • Waterproofing: Proper waterproofing prevents leaks and future damage. The method and quality will affect the price.
  • Electrical work: Adding new switch points or lighting can add up; wiring and switches are not cheap.
  • Labour costs: Skilled labour is essential for waterproofing, tiling, and plumbing.
  • Design or layout changes: If you move fixtures or reconfigure the layout, costs go up.
  • Regional variation: City-wise labour and material costs differ; metro cities typically cost more.

How Much Does It Cost to Re-Do a Bathroom in India?

Bright re-do a bathroom space with white carved wall panels.
Luxury re-do a bathroom project featuring a long floating vanity.

Here’s a breakdown of typical bathroom renovation costs in India, based on budget, mid-range, and luxury options as of 2025.

Renovation TierEstimated CostWhat You Get
Budget₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000Basic tiles, standard plumbing, Indian sanitary ware, minimal layout changes.
Mid-Range₹1,00,000 – ₹2,50,000Higher-quality tiles, branded fittings, concealed plumbing, better lighting.
Luxury₹2,50,000 – ₹5,00,000+Designer tiles, imported or premium fitting brands, glass partitions, smart lighting, and custom furniture.

Some high-end luxury remodels in metro cities may even cross ₹6 lakh for bespoke designs.

Cost Breakdown by Component

Minimalist redoing bathroom design with dark wood and pebble floor.
Zen-style redoing bathroom design featuring recessed ceiling lights.

To really understand the cost of redoing bathroom, let’s look at how the money is usually divided:

  1. Electrical Work

Electrical work affects your overall bathroom refit cost, especially if adding LED mirrors, wall lights, or extra switch points. Modern bathrooms often need additional electrical lines for geysers, exhausts, and vanity lighting. Premium switches and wiring brands can increase cost but add durability.

  • Budget: ₹5,000–₹10,000
  • Luxury: ₹40,000–₹80,000
  • Wiring and switch points typically cost ₹1,500–₹2,000 each.
  1. Plumbing

Plumbing upgrades significantly influence renovation pricing, including retiling bathroom cost, because pipes often need relocation. Premium CPVC or copper piping improves durability but costs more. Poor plumbing can lead to leaks, dampness, and higher maintenance later.

  • Hidden pipeline installations: ₹28,000–₹30,000 or more.
  • Overall plumbing (labour + materials): from ₹20,000 to ₹50,000+, depending on scale and quality.
  1. Tiling (Floor + Wall)

Tiles determine both the design and budget, especially if you are comparing bathroom tiles design and price or calculating the cost to tile a small bathroom. Labour charges plus adhesive and grouting greatly influence the final retiling bathroom cost. Choosing a mix of premium and budget tiles can help control expenditure.

  • Ceramic tiles: ₹60–₹200 per sq. ft.
  • Plus installation costs on top.
  1. Sanitaryware & Fixtures

Sanitaryware selection impacts bathroom refit cost, whether you choose budget, mid-range, or luxury options. Premium brands offer longer warranties, better designs, and water efficiency. Fixtures such as rain showers, wall-hung WCs, or thermostatic mixers increase overall pricing.

  • Budget fittings: ₹8,000–₹20,000.
  • Premium or luxury brands: ₹50,000 to over ₹1,00,000 depending on how upscale you go.
  1. Waterproofing

Waterproofing is essential and directly linked to long-term savings. Skipping quality waterproofing increases future repairs and retiling bathroom cost. Premium membrane systems offer better coverage and durability.

  • Basic budget waterproofing: around ₹8,000–₹15,000.
  • Luxury or advanced membrane systems: ₹50,000–₹1,00,000 for large or premium bathrooms.
  1. Labour

Labour cost depends on bathroom size, tile complexity, and city. Special patterns, mosaics, or designer tiles increase installation time and overall bathroom refit cost. Experienced labour ensures better waterproofing, alignment, and durability.

  • Minor renovation: ₹15,000–₹40,000.
  • Full-scale remodel: ₹50,000 to ₹1.5 lakh+ depending on skill level, region, and scope.
  • Labour rates vary strongly by city and complexity.

Smart Ways to Estimate Your Bathroom Refit Cost

Spacious bathroom design with double vanity and large window view.
Elegant bathroom design incorporating warm wood tones and marble.

Here are some practical steps to estimate how much redoing your bathroom will cost:

  1. Define Your Scope:
    • Are you changing tiles, or also replacing plumbing and electricals?
    • Do you want to reconfigure the layout or relocate fixtures?
    • Be clear: cosmetic refresh vs full renovation drives the cost of redoing bathroom hugely.
  2. Measure Accurately:
    • Calculate the total square feet (or metres) for walls and floors.
    • For a small bathroom, the cost to tile a small bathroom may seem smaller overall, but per sq. ft., costs can be comparable.
  3. Choose Your Materials:
    • Decide on tile quality (ceramic, vitrified, designer).
    • Select plumbing pipes (CPVC, copper) and sanitaryware (budget vs premium).
    • Explore waterproofing techniques.
    • Check bathroom tiles design and price before finalising.
  4. Get Quotes:
    • Engage at least 3 quotes for different designs.
    • Ask for itemised quotes breakdowns for materials, labour, waterproofing, and fixtures.
  5. Include a Contingency:
    • Always keep 10–20% extra in your budget for surprises: structural fixes, plaster repair, and unexpected plumbing issues.
    • Hidden costs (e.g., filling up electrical boxes, patchwork) often come up later.
  6. Prioritise and Phase Work:
    • If the budget is tight, do work in phases. Example: first waterproof and re-tile; later upgrade fittings.
    • Phasing helps spread the cost and lets you refine the design over time.

Current Trends and Smart Design Choices

Royal smart bathroom design with ornate gold tiles and white tub.
Opulent smart bathroom design showcasing intricate mosaic wall art.

Here are some of the latest design trends and cost-smart ideas when redoing bathrooms in India:

  • Large-format or big tiles: Using large tiles reduces grout lines, making small bathrooms look bigger, and can reduce labour costs per area.
  • Neutral and minimalist palettes: Whites, greys, and pastels are in trend — and often more affordable than heavy designer-patterned tiles.
  • Mixing tile qualities: For example, use premium tiles for a feature wall and budget ceramic for the rest, a smart way to manage cost.
  • Water-saving fittings: Eco-friendly taps and dual-flush toilets lower long-term maintenance costs.
  • Modular storage: Wall niches, floating shelves, and recessed storage are fashionable yet practical.
  • Layered lighting: Combine ambient light + task lighting + mirror lights. This adds style without a huge cost spike if planned well.

Understanding Re-Tiling & Tile Design Costs

Creative re-tiling tile design with eclectic patterned floor tiles.
Vibrant re-tiling tile design for a unique contemporary bathroom.

Why Tiling Costs Are a Big Component

Tiling is a major component of the cost of redoing bathroom. The retiling bathroom cost depends not only on the tile material but also on installation labour, adhesive, and grouting.

Typical Tile Design and Price Trends (2025)

Here are popular tile design trends in India in 2025, including bathroom tiles design and price and bathroom tiles design with price, along with approximate price ranges per sq. ft:

Title Type / DesignTypical Price Range
Basic Ceramic Tiles₹30 – ₹150 per sq.ft.
Porcelain / Vitrified Tiles₹50– ₹400 per sq.ft.
Anti-skid / Textured / Matte Tiles₹37– ₹120 per sq.ft.
Natural Stone ( Marble / Granite )₹60– ₹250+ per sq.ft.
Designer/ Mosaic / Moroccan Tiles₹60– ₹500+ per sq.ft.

Understanding the bathroom tiles design and price helps you compare materials better and will even give you an estimated cost to tile a small bathroom.

Installation Cost Add-ons:

  • Laying tiles (labour) typically costs ₹25–₹45 per sq. ft.
  • Adhesive & grouting may add another ₹7–₹15 per sq. ft.
  • Always buy 5–10% extra tiles to cover cutting waste or breakage.

Understanding bathroom tiles design with price and installation costs helps you better estimate the total bathroom renovation cost. For trendier tiles, the bathroom tiles design with price can be higher, but it adds aesthetic value.

Current Tile Design Trends in India

Bold bathroom tile design featuring a colorful patchwork accent wall.
Trendy bathroom tile design with a freestanding tub and wood vanity.

Here are some tile design trends in India in 2025 — and how they affect cost:

  • Large-format tiles (600×1200 mm): These create a seamless, spacious look with fewer grout lines, and often cost more upfront but save on maintenance.
  • Natural-stone-look tiles: Porcelain or vitrified tiles that mimic marble or slate give a premium feel without the fragility or price of real stone.
  • Matte-finish anti-skid tiles: Ideal for floors, offering both style and safety.
  • Mosaic or geometric tiles: Useful for accent walls or shower areas; they can be more expensive because of their pattern and installation complexity.
  • Subway and hexagon tiles: A classic that works great in both modern and traditional bathrooms.
  • 3D textured tiles or bold patterns: These are becoming more popular for feature walls; they can raise your tile cost, but add design punch. This bathroom tiles design with price can be expensive, but it adds style.

Choosing trendier or more intricate tiles naturally raises the bathroom tiles design with price and can even increase your retiling bathroom cost, but done right, it greatly improves aesthetics and value.

Practical Steps to Plan and Execute Your Bathroom Redo

  1. Diagnose and Plan:
    • Assess the current condition. Note plumbing or water-leak issues.
    • Decide which areas to change: tiles, fittings, layout, and lighting.
  2. Design & Layout:
    • Sketch or ask a designer to suggest layout optimisations.
    • Think modular: storage niches, minimal clutter.
  3. Finalise Materials:
    • Choose tile types, sanitaryware brands, waterproofing techniques, and lighting.
    • Balance aesthetics and cost — use a mix of premium and budget items if needed.
  4. Get Quotes:
    • Ask for itemised quotes from multiple contractors via NoBroker Interiors.
    • Get the cost of labour, materials, and hidden items separately.
  5. Execute Work:
    • First, do demolition and plumbing changes.
    • Then waterproofing.
    • After that, tiling.
    • Finally, install fittings, lights, and finish with paint.
  6. Quality Check & Handover:
    • Test the waterproofed surfaces (perform a ponding test if needed)
    • Check tile finishing, alignment, and grout.
    • Ensure plumbing and electrical points work.

OMG, needed to vent that out 😊. So, we had a terrible experience with another company, cancelled after 2 months of delays, and lost our booking amount. Was feeling pretty low. Then tried NoBroker on a colleague's recommendation. Walked into the HSR center cynical, expecting the worst. But the consultant listened to our story, pointed out where we were overcharged, and came up with a better design at a lower cost. They started work within 10 days and finished in 48 days. Zero drama! Sometimes you need a bad experience to appreciate a good one. NoBroker HSR center restored my faith in the interior industry 👍.

My daughter who is studying architecture in college came with me to the HSR center. She was quizzing the consultant about material sustainability—whether the plywood is from certified sources, if the laminates have low VOC emissions, what happens to waste material from the factory. The consultant handled every question and even pulled up their material certification documents. My daughter was impressed. She told me later: 'Appa, this company actually knows their supply chain, not just their design.' When a 20-year-old architecture student validates your choice, you know you've picked right.

Specifically writing about the false ceiling consultation at the center. I didnt know there was so much to know about ceilings! The designer showed us different options—gypsum board, POP, wooden grid, MDF panels—and explained which works best for which room. The living room got a peripheral cove lighting design with warm LEDs, the bedroom got a simple recessed light plan (she said elaborate ceilings in bedrooms can feel oppressive when your lying down, which makes total sense), and the kids room got a small starlight panel. She also planned all the AC routing, curtain pelmet concealment, and speaker cable channels inside the false ceiling so nothing is visible. The ceiling alone transformed how our rooms feel. Also, their false ceiling pricing per sq ft was pretty competitive—I had checked with two separate contractors before.

We visited the NoBroker Varthur center for our villa interior project in Sarjapur Road. The design team was fantastic in understanding our preference for a blend of traditional and contemporary styles. They showed us premium material options including solid wood, veneer, and high-gloss acrylic finishes. The TV unit and crockery unit designs on display were stunning. Highly recommended for villa owners!

This review is from a couple who fights about everything haha. I wanted dark colors and modern look, my husband wanted light wood and earthy tones. The designer at Varthur center literally played mediator. She showed us a concept where the common areas (living room, kitchen) use light wooden textures that my husband likes, and the master bedroom uses the darker charcoal tones that I prefer. The kids room got a neutral palette with colorful accents. Everyone happy. She called it 'transitional design' where different zones have different personalities but connected by a common accent color (we chose teal). The 3D walkthrough she made showed exactly how it all flows together. I showed it to 3 friends and they all said it looks like something out of Architectural Digest. OK maybe I'm exaggerating a little but you get the point. We both love it.

To be honest, I was super skeptical about branded interior services - thought they were just overpriced and overhyped 😊. Had to be dragged to the Horamavu center by a friend. But the moment I saw the quality difference between their factory-made units and the site-built work in my current flat, I was sold! The edge finishing, drawer runners, plywood... everything was top-notch. Machine-pressed edge banding vs hand-applied tape that peels off in 6 months - big difference! Smooth drawer runners, thicker plywood... I went in a skeptic and came out a convert. Guess you need to see and touch things to believe 'em 😁.

We are from Thanisandra and visited the center for our villa interior project. The designer adapted her approach for a larger independent house—didn't just scale up apartment designs. She proposed separate design personalities for ground floor (where guests are entertained—formal, elegant) and first floor (private family spaces—warm, casual). The staircase got under-staircase pull-out storage that holds 30 pairs of shoes. The double-height living room got a dramatic false ceiling with a chandelier recess. The master bedroom got a walk-in closet design instead of a regular wardrobe. Villa interiors need different thinking than apartment interiors and this team clearly has experience with both formats.

As a working professional with limited time to manage contractors, the project management aspect is what attracted me. Visited the center with a Pinterest board of 47 saved kitchen images. The consultant didn’t get overwhelmed. She patiently went through each one, identified common elements I was drawn to (handleless cabinets, wooden textures, open shelving), and created a unified design that captured the essence of all those pins. She basically translated my chaotic Pinterest board into a cohesive design. Overall we are very satisfied with the entire experience from start to finish.
