I was looking out for plans to decorate my living room. It has two pillars and is very much spacious and mere painting would not have been able to highlight the area. I thought of hanging large frames or paintings as well yet wasn’t very much satisfied with the idea. At last I decided to try out fibrous plaster on the pillars and a wall. I have heard a lot about it and knew that it would be able to make the room decorative and elegant. I did not know much at that time what is fibrous plaster made of and hence needed to study about it. I would love to share with you everything about it I know here.

Materials used in Fibrous PlasterFibrous plaster is made up of plaster of Paris reinforced with hessian fabric and timber laths. It is usually manufactured as dry powder and then water is added as per requirement to produce a stiff paste.
Why is fibrous plaster used?Fibrous plaster is used for mere decorative purposes. I used this type of plaster for the pillars and the wall. It can be used to curve out any design and that is what I did. In fact the fibrous plaster ceiling has also given our dining area a classy look. You can ask the builder to curve anything you like. I opted for a huge flower design on the ceiling and for pillars, I asked them to create a leaves-like design.
How to repair the plaster?Fibrous plaster is delicate as well so do remember that you need to be careful about it. If you witness a small crack, flush off the crack with gypsum stopping compound. If the crack is large, do ask a skilled plasterer to do it for you.
I hope these details about fibrous plaster will help you to understand it better.
