Bank routing number is a nine-digit code that identifies the transaction source of any financial institution, not just Indian banks. It's used before making a payment.

RTN (routing number) is another term for a routing number (Routing Transit Number). It's a nine-digit code that's used to identify financial organisations or banks when making a payment.

Wire transfers and ACH (Automated Clearing House) payments commonly employ routine numbers. Several routing numbers are used by some banks for various purposes, branches, and geographical locations.

So, if you're performing a money transfer, double-check,

what is your routing number

before proceeding.

The following is a basic method by which I locate my bank's routing number:

  • You may easily find it by browsing through the chequebook. Looking at the bottom side of your check would be beneficial. Your bank routing number is the first 9-digit code

  • If you don't want to use a cheque, you can call the bank's toll-free number and request the procedure number by informing your branch. Indian banks can be reached through 180042500000, which is a toll-free number.

  • You can also inquire about the routing number at an Indian Bank branch near you

Keep in mind that each branch's routing number will be unique.

I hope this answer would help you in understanding what is a bank routing number.

The ACH routing number is a number that helps in detecting the location and financial institution from which or to which a transaction has occurred. You will need this code or number before making a payment. If you face any trouble detecting it on your cheque, you can ask the bank officials and get to know what your routing number is anytime. What is meant by HDFC bank routing number?

Each bank has a specific code that helps others to detect what bank it is. HDFC Bank has a routing number of its own. The international routing number of HDFC bank looks like HDFCINBBXXX. I am not sure about what the domestic routing number of HDFC looks like. I have an account in SBI so I am aware of the routing number there. The routing number of SBI bank is 026009140. So during a transaction, if you see this code, be sure that one bank is SBI, either the person receiving the money or the person giving the money has used the SBI bank.

I hope this answers what is ACH routing number.

I first heard about the routing number from my sister. She is a bank employee and she was telling a story about one of her customers. She kept mentorship about the routing number in her story and I honestly had no idea what is routing number in bank. So, I had to interrupt her story and ask her about it. She told me that a routing number is a 9-digit code provided by banks which is helpful in identifying where a bank account was opened. That is in which branch of the bank your bank account was opened.

This is what bank routing number means. It is also known as the ABA routing number or RTN or sometimes also known as routing transit number. If you are planning to send money to a foreign bank account or internationally, then you should keep the routing number handy with you.

Where to Find Your Routing Number?

So, now that you know the meaning of routing number in bank, let me tell you where you can find the routing number.

You can easily locate your routing number on your cheques at the bottom part of it. It is precisely located on the left side of your account number on your cheque. If you use the online banking system, you can find your routing number on your account or profile page.

The

routing number bank

is not commonly used. The banking system typically relies on other identifiers for transactions.

The primary identifiers used for electronic fund transfers within India are the Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) and the National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) or Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) systems.

The IFSC is a unique alphanumeric code assigned to each bank branch in India by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It is used to identify individual bank branches when conducting electronic fund transfers within the country. It is an 11-digit code that includes both letters and numbers.

NEFT and RTGS are electronic fund transfer systems used for transferring funds between banks.

While some other countries, especially the United States, use the term "routing number". It refers to a specific identifier used in the clearing and settlement of checks and electronic transactions.

For international transactions SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) codes are used to identify banks globally.  In the above para I have tried to explain
