Under the RBI's Digital Payments – E-mandate Framework, 2026, every e-mandate must be registered with additional factor authentication, and customers must get a pre-debit alert at least 24 hours before each debit. Recurring payments up to Rs. 15,000 need no further authentication, while higher amounts require it, except insurance, mutual funds and credit card bills, which go up to Rs. 1 lakh. Customers can modify or withdraw mandates, and no charges may be levied for the facility.
