When properties are registered in the name of more than 1 person, then those properties come under joint ownership. Those who hold the property title in such ownership, are called property’s co-owners. In such cases, all the owners of a property are co-owners.
As per the Transfer of Property Act, all co-owners have a proprietary right to the whole property. So, the consent of every co-owner is required if anyone wants to sell the property.
If you want to change the co-ownership into sole ownership, then you can do it through partition.
I hope this helps.
