We live on the top floor of a 4-story apartment complex with 10 flats. We’ve been hearing water hammer-like noises in our flat for the past 2 weeks. It began when a poorly executed renovation in one unit caused the main building supply to be shut off and then switched back on. Recently, to help them out, I researched how to solve water hammering issues in apartments. I have added the steps below.
How to Fix Water Hammer Easily?
The best method I came across is installing a water hammer arrester. Here are the steps.
Turn off all the water in the house.
Now, take a bucket and loosen the hose fittings using an adjustable wrench.
Install the arrester following its type. For example, Teflon tape can make threaded water hammer arresters fit more tightly.
You can now attach the water supply tube to the water hammer arrester using pliers and tighten it.
Finally, turn the water back on and test each fixture.
