How to do drywall repair?

1) Arrange the Opening

You need to cut the hole's borders to achieve straight sides and a perfect rectangle or square shape. You have to draw cutting marks on the drywall using chalk and a framing square. Then trim the length of the line with a drywall saw.

2) Install Supporting Sheets

You have to cut two pieces of timber or plywood, each of which is longer than the length of the opening. You can place one piece into the opening around one of the long sides. The supporting strip should be installed in the same manner as the long side hole.

3) Apply the Repair on the Drywall

You can cut a piece of drywall to fit the opening. It's not necessary to cut the exact fit. Lay the top over the opening and secure it to the supporting sheets with screws. You have to make sure the screws are spaced about six inches apart and about one inch from the sides of the covering.

4) Seal the Joints

You have to seal every joint with drywall joint tape. You have to overlap tape sheets at the corners and cut the sheets to length using a sharp blade. Make sure the tape is completely flat and free of any curves or folds.

5) Mud the Joints

You can coat the drywall tape with a thin layer of drywall joint compound with a six-inch drywall blade. The material must be visible through the mixture. This is one of the main drywall repair techniques.

6) Refinish the Mud

First, you need to refine the dry compound's surface with a sanding cloth. Don't sand the solution too much and avoid blocking the exposed tape netting. Wet-sanding with a wet-sanding sponge can help decrease dust.

7) Paint Restored Drywalls

You can apply a coating of primer to the entire patch area with a paintbrush. Let the primer dry completely. Apply two or more layers as needed to match the patch's nearby region. If the ceiling or wall can bear it, you can also paint the wall to completely cover the repair.

This way you will know how to repair damaged drywall.
