When you filed your ITR, did you make any mistakes? In that case, you can amend them by submitting a Revised Return in accordance with Section 139(5) of the 1961 Income Tax Act. This enables you to fix mistakes including inaccurate tax computations, lost deductions, and misreported income. I have shared the detailed instructions on how to edit income tax return after submit below.
How to Revise your Income Tax Return?
Here is the process you can follow.
Go to the official Income Tax e-filing portal (
https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/) and log in using your credentials.
After logging in, click on the 'e-File' tab and then select ‘Income Tax Return’ from the dropdown.
Choose the assessment year for which you need to file a revised return.
Under the ‘Return Filing’ section, select ‘Revised Return’ (under Section 139(5)).
Enter details of your original ITR, including the Acknowledgement Number and Filing Date of the return you previously filed.
Make the necessary changes in the fields where errors were identified.
After making the corrections, re-validate the return and submit it. You will receive a new Acknowledgment Number after successful submission.
I hope you found this helpful.
