Hi so to tell you how much paint is needed for exterior walls per sq ft, most paints typically give you 100-120 sq ft coverage per liter.

You can do simple math. Divide your wall area by that number and you know how many liters you need. But it's slightly more nuanced than that so let me break it down properly.

  1. If you have 1000 sq ft of exterior wall space, you'd divide it by 110 (taking average coverage) to get roughly 9 liters for one coat.

  2. But you're not painting just one coat. Two coats of paint are the industry standard requirement for proper finish and durability, especially for exteriors. So you're looking at 18 liters total for a standard 1000 sq ft property.

What Affects Paint Coverage

  1. Wall Condition: Coverage isn't always 110 sq ft per liter. Wall texture is a huge factor. Textured, rough, or sand-faced walls absorb significantly more paint than smooth surfaces, sometimes reducing effective coverage by a lot.

  2. Painting Technique: The technique used by the painter also matters in getting proper coverage. If sprayers are being used, overspray leads to a lot of loss of paint while rollers and brushes are the most efficient to paint.

  3. Paint Quality: So having a high quality paint helps here as it has a higher percentage of solids, which are pigment and binder, giving better hiding power and better coverage per liter.

That’s all.
