If you've ever been interested in 3D printing but have been hesitant to take the plunge because you're worried that it might cost too much money, you'll want to read this article. In this article, we will go over 3d printed homes. We will also share some details about India's first 3D Printed Home and the project that they undertook.

What is a 3D Printed Home?

A 3D-printed home is a house made of 3D-printed materials. 3D printing is a type of advanced manufacturing technology that works by laying down thin layers of material on top of each other, to create an object.

Rather than cutting and welding pieces together, 3D printers instead use digital designs that are stored on a computer hard drive or in the cloud. The printer uses special plastics, metals, and other materials to produce objects layer-by-layer. This can make the process quicker than mass production methods like those used by traditional manufacturing giants such as Ford or Toyota.

India's First 3D-printed House

The credit for creating India’s first startup belongs to Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions, a startup which is founded by IIT Madras. The company plans to make 30-50 houses that can be 3D printed in a day.

The materials for building the house were delivered locally by a truck and this process took about several days in total to build it from scratch! It was inaugurated by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

3D Printed House in India: Design and Construction Process

3D printing has taken off in the last few years and has been a game changer for several industries. Now, 3D-printed buildings are becoming possible. In India, what started as a wish has become reality for Modi Singh who is the first person to have 3D printed his house in Jaipur. He utilized a different approach to construct and print his home from scratch using only Indian raw materials such as sandstone, straw, clay, and wood chips. The project lasted several months during which time he was able to do all the building and printing on-site before moving into the finished product once complete.

In one of the company blogs, Tvasta Manufacturing Solutions mentioned that they have developed their material mix. During the 3D printing of this house, they have developed a concrete mix that is completely eco-friendly. This mix took them several experiments and trials to work out the best mix that can be used for this house.

For building the house, they started with erecting the walls with concrete first, then when that dried it was layered with a mixture of sandstone powder and straw as per their experimentation. The roof was then printed using clay and coated with waterproofing material. They also added wooden posts to give it strength as well as stability. When everything was dry, they painted it all to look like a regular structure.

The Tvasta house construction process is focused on sustainable materials. They are economically and environmentally friendly. They are sustainable for the environment as well as for the residents. They vowed to initiate this in other places and with that, they are on their way to making 3D printed houses a possibility. This house took a total of nine months to complete and the process was documented across different blogs. The images of the house in various stages of construction are shown below, as well as some images of the final product. There was no 3d printing services provider that provided any assistance in the entire process. Everything has been done completely by themselves and for this, they are quite proud of their accomplishment.

All about India's First 3D Printed House in Chennai

Tvasta’s first structure was a single-story house. It is made to stand along a 600-sq unit. The house was built in just a series of 5 days. The house is the result of the lead designer’s ambition to build a 3D-printed home that would be affordable and highly customizable. The 3D printed house is not just eco-friendly, but also a sustainable solution to two key urban challenges, the first being increasing space crunch and the second one being the high cost incurred in building properties. The Cost of building a 3D printed house in India is comparatively lesser than that is required to build an average sized house.

According to Tvasta president, this 3d printed home will be made available for people upon ordering it online and it can be customized as per their requirements. Thereafter they'll get a mail from Tvasta with scan data of what will be built. It is what was created on waste materials and technology, based on 1/3 rd of waste generated.

Tvasta Printed House Price in India

The Tvasta 3d house price is well-planned and designed at a lower range and cost. It not only offers more value for money but also a house with a cutting-edge design.

The Tvasta 3d home project is designed to have higher grade insulation, airtightness, and heat retention. The prefabricated home is made of top-quality polyurethane walls which make it earthquake resistant, fire resistant, and insulated. In addition to this, the Tvasta 3d printed homes are hurricane resistant as they are made with steel reinforced joints.

As per the construction team to share insights, the cost of 3D printed house ranges from around 5 lakhs to 5.5 lakhs. Roughly there is a 20% cost around the building based on a standard 2 BHK price.

Can 3D-Printed Homes fix the housing crisis?

Concrete 3D printer machine

3D-printed homes are not a new concept, although it is relatively new to India. The construction of 3D-printed houses has been going on in China and the United States for years but the demand and interest have been going on for weeks. This is because, in 2017, the cost of 3d homes was very high when compared with normal housing. Due to this people were not interested in buying them. However, now things have changed a lot due to the introduction of modern technology.

But it should be noted that a 3d printed home is not like a normal house that can be readied for just about two weeks. These houses take more time to get ready.

3D Printed Post Office in India

In Karnataka, Bangalore there is a 3D-printed post office too. The Indian construction industry is not much known or understood by many people, but it is the largest labour force in the country and one of the top industries in terms of revenue and value added to it as well. The work done by these people is essential in maintaining a continuous growth rate for the economy.

Technology and house construction are reaching new heights of transformation. In a perfect home, all types of options need to be open for an individual, one of them is a printed house.

We are happy with the overall experience with NoBroker, especially with respect to the quality of work delivered. However, the pricing is slightly on the higher side compared to the market. We would especially like to appreciate the efforts of the Project Managers, Mr. Tabrez Pasha and Mr. Harsha, for their continuous support and coordination throughout the process. The development team has been very responsive and proactive in rectifying issues promptly whenever customers identify and report them, including support for replacements. However, maintaining timelines often required continuous follow-ups from our side. We request the team to improve proactive timeline management and adherence to committed schedules. A special thank you to Mr. Tabrez Pasha for providing daily updates to the customer, supporting even small modifications, and maintaining continuous interaction and coordination throughout the project. Overall, thank you to the entire team for the support and cooperation.

Recently we had completed our interior work from Nobrokers. We had initial discussions to get our requirements understood by team and then design team - Sneha Phand mam helped us to get the 3D design based on our discussions. The important part was accommodating all the requirements that too managing the overall design within our budget. Once the design phase was completed we entered the execution phase and I really want to thank Mahesh Sharma who has managed the project delivery excellently. I rarely visited the site during the execution as I was very busy in my office work but I was getting daily updates from him and he has excellently co ordinated with all the members like carpenters electrician and other working team and delivered our dream home within the agreed timelines. It was really nice to work with Mahesh Sharma and team and I will definitely recommend Nobroker for interior projects.
