What is multi modal terminal ?
To explain in simple words, it is a barrage that is constructed to integrate different types of transportation networks in the same place. One of the biggest multi modal terminal is being built on river Ganga. From roads, waterways, airways or any other means will be integrated together. If the setup of the terminal is on land, railways can also be included in the list. If the multi model terminal or MMT is set on river ports, then boats and ships will get a terminal station along with cars, trucks via roadways.
There are many advantages of a MMT. From the looks of it, The end station of different transportation networks can be deemed as MMT. There have been various news of modernisation of the existing railway network in India via converting it to a multimodal cargo terminal and multi-modal passenger terminal.
