Hi there, I recently purchased a vintage home and I've known since the beginning of my bathroom project that I wanted to remove the built-in cabinets and doors. The house was completed in 1910, and I was sure the original wood behind all that paint was stunning. Three drawers and two doors needed to be stripped. Because the surfaces were all quite level, I imagined a simple project. Oh, but I was so wrong about this. It then clicked in my mind that I could use a heat gun to remove masonry paint, but for that I needed to do my research on how to use a heat gun to strip paint. So I did my part and came up with the methods which I am going to share with you. Looking for good painting services in your area? • Warm Paint: Move the heat gun around a small area until the paint begins to bubble, about an inch away from the paint. Moving the heat gun around prevents this from occurring in either case. Heat gun paint removal lead and lead paint can be tricky. Be more careful while doing that.
  1. Scrape Paint: Scrape the paint off the wood using the paint scraper. As a result, the paint didn't begin to cool until I'd taken it from the wood. Obviously, try to avoid gouging the wood while scraping. But, to be honest, I stole it a few times. I didn't think it was a huge concern because they sanded out easily in the end.
  2. Repeat: This method is not quick, but after several podcasts, I was able to complete the task.
  3. Sand: I sanded the wood smooth after removing the majority of the paint. I started with 40 grit sandpaper and worked my way up to 240 grit. Sanding removed any sticky paint and smoothed up my wood so it could be painted. It should be noted that this did result in some paint dust being released into the atmosphere. I put on my respirator and prayed that the small amount still attached to the wood wasn't enough to be dangerous.
This is the process I follow with my heat gun to remove masonry paint. I hope it helps you too. Read More: How to Remove Paint from Metal? How to Remove Paint from Floor? How to Remove Paint from Wood Furniture?
