Power cuts are a major problem in India, especially during the summer and monsoon seasons. During work from the home era, I found this issue a lot. I would work or join a meeting and suddenly I would realize that there is a power cut in my area. This situation hampered my day and my work. I had to resolve this issue finally, so I decided to purchase an inverter for my home. Let me share with you my experience on how to select inverter for home.
How to choose inverter for home?
Identify your power requirements:
The main thing we should decide while purchasing an inverter is what appliances need to run when there is a power cut in the home. When I purchased my inverter I wanted to connect 2 lights, 1 fan and 2 CFLs with the inverter. After calculating I found that I need a total of 170 Watts to run all these appliances. So, when I was looking online I checked out an inverter that can provide 170 Watts when there is a power cut in the home.
Check the VA of the inverter:
To buy an inverter, we need to realise how many Volt Amperes can the inverter supply to the appliances. Calculating the VA is fairly simple. By dividing the power requirement by power factor, we can get the VA easily. Let me illustrate with an example:The average power factor of VA is 0.7 or 0.8VA= 170/0.7VA= 242.85 Approx.Hence, in this situation, we need an inverter with 250 VA.
Buy inverter with appropriate battery
To decide how to decide inverter capacity for home, we should focus on buying an inverter with an appropriate battery. That means how many hours an inverter can run your appliances. Let's just say you need 6 hours back-up when there is a power cut.
