Summary
To install bathroom tile, first comply with local building codes and obtain any necessary permits. Remove old flooring and ensure the subfloor is smooth, clean, and structurally sound before applying a waterproof tile membrane set in wet thinset, allowing it to bond for a full day. Dry-fit tiles, marking and cutting door jambs as needed. Apply thinset mortar to the membrane and the back of each tile, then press firmly into place, using spacers. Cut tiles to size using a wet saw or tile cutter. After the tile dries for 24-48 hours, mix and apply grout, pulling a grout float diagonally across the tiles. Once the grout dries, remove grout haze with a sponge and cool water mixture, and finally, apply and let dry a grout sealer.

To install the bathroom floor, you must follow local building laws and get the permit requirements. After getting the permission, here is how to lay floor tiles in bathroom:

  • Firstly, take out old flooring.

  • You must ensure the subfloor is smooth, clean, and structurally sound.

  • Now, put on a waterproof tile membrane.

  • Insert the membrane into the thinset that is still wet.

  • Give the membrane and thinset a full day to bond.

  • Using the chalk snap line, draw a line down the middle of the space.

  • To find the centre point, use the tape measure.

  • Place each tile (with spacers) in the proper spot to dry-fit your tile.

  • Now, place a tile with a thin cardboard spacer underneath it if you left the door jambs in place.

  • After that, use a pencil to mark the door jambs.

  • After removing the tile and spacer, use the multitool to cut the door jambs.

  • In a bucket, combine the thinset (if it's a dry mix).

  • Apply thinset mortar to the tile membrane cavities using the trowel's straight, unnotched side.

  • Spread thinset mortar over a small area of the floor (usually two feet by two feet) using the trowel's notched edge.

  • Additionally, use the thinset to butter the back of a tile.

  • Firmly press the tile into the floor.

  • Now, place tile spacers as you move on to neighbouring tiles.

  • Use a wet tile saw or a rail (or snap) tile cutter to cut the tile to size as needed.

  • Let the tile completely dry, which should take 24 to 48 hours.

  • Mix the tile grout and use the rubber grout float.

  • Pull the float diagonally across the tiles in your direction.

  • Now, add grout haze remover to the bucket with cool water once the grout has dried.

  • Use the tile sponge to remove the grout haze from the tile surface.

  • Let the tile dry and apply grout sealer.

  • Finally, let the grout sealer dry.

This is all about how to put tile in bathroom.
