I am confused. If you have the address, isn’t it easy to find a house number? In my case, if I have to

find house number by address in India. I simply put it on Google Maps. If I have to visit a place and I am driving myself, that’s the best way to go about it.

But if you just want to know how to find house number from address then I don’t think you can do it for private houses at least on maps. On Google Maps you can find the address and plot number/ house number of commercial properties only. 

Other than this digital mode, if you have the address and want to find house number in India, there are a couple of ways to find out. 

• You can visit the online property registration website and search for property details using address. I did the same for my property in Delhi just to ensure that it works using this website - 

• If that doesn’t work, you should visit the SRO and get information from there. 

Ideally, you should simply ask the person about his/her house number while noting down address but nonetheless, these are a few ways I know on how to find house number by address in India.

That’s when I called my father to know how to check house number.  He told me that the house number is typically mentioned in a postal address. He told me some other ways to do house number search:

• You can reach out to your neighbours as they know the house numbers of nearby properties sometimes.

• You can check the paid bills like water bills, electricity bills, etc. as the home number is usually mentioned on them.

•  You can also check your property documents as property details like house number are specified there.

• You can visit the office of your area’s municipal authority with all the relevant property documents and ask them to help you find house number by name.

• Thanks to digitisation, nowadays almost all states have an official land record website where citizens can check their property details.

For example, In West Bengal, you can check the property details on the Banglarbhumi website (online portal for land records and reforms). Here’s the process that you’ll be required to follow to do the house no search:

• Got to the Banglarbhumi portal and tap on "Know Your Property" under the Citizen Service button

• Enter details like district, Mouza (village), and block.

• Enter the ‘Plot number’ or 'Khatian number'

• After that, you will be able to check your house number. You can use this portal to obtain property-related details like the owner's name, land acreage, house number/plot number, property valuation, etc.

How to find house number online?

1. Go to the Open National Voter Service Portal to find your address or house number.

2. Choose the state you reside in and hit the ‘go’ button.

3. After selecting the location a webpage will appear. Close it and move to the next page.

4. Choose ‘Electoral Draft Roll’ to view the house number online. Enter your address after this.

5. Choose your district, voting booth and assembly. Fill in the captcha and select ‘Show’. 

6. Download the PDF by searching your name or your parent’s name. It may take some time. In your voter list you will find a house number which will appear underneath it. This my friend is your house number.

Since I live in Mumbai I can tell you how to conduct home number check online. 

1. Go to the official website of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM).

2. Click on the "For citizen" tab on the homepage.

   Then, click on “ property tax option”

   You will need to log in with your credentials 

3. Select the "Search Property" option from the drop-down menu.

4. Enter the address or the CTS number of the property you want to search for.

5. Once you click on "Search," you should be able to see the details of the property, including the house number.

If you already know the address, you can automatically find home number. Most addresses start with the house number/flat number. If the address is 304, Nikung Lane, Andheri East, Mumbai. The home number will be 304. 

You can use Google Maps or MapQuest to find the address. You will need to enter the address or the location you want to search for, and the website should provide you with the house number or the door number of the property.

You can also ask your neighbours or the local post office for the address with door number, especially if you're new to the area or if you recently moved in. You might need to show an identity proof to the officials.
