Here is how to change bathroom shower taps:

  1. First, turn off the main water supply so water does not come out.

  2. Then open the old tap to remove any water left inside the pipes.

  3. Next, remove the shower handle and the front cover plate using a screwdriver. Take them out slowly so you can see the water control part inside the wall.

  4. After that, loosen the pipe joints and remove the old water control unit carefully without breaking the pipes.

  5. Then, buy a new water control unit that suits your bathroom. Fix its parts together before putting it inside.

  6. Now, connect the pipes to the new unit. If your pipes are copper, you may need to heat them to fix them properly. Make sure all joints are tight so water does not leak.

  7. Next, place a wooden support behind the wall to hold the unit firmly in place.

  8. After fixing the unit, turn on the water supply for a short time and check for any leakage. If you see a leak, fix it before moving ahead.

  9. Then, insert the inner part (which controls water flow) into the unit.

  10. Next, attach the lower pipe outlet (tap) and fix the showerhead properly.

  11. After that, put the front cover plate and handle back. Tighten them well.

  12. Finally, adjust the hot water setting to keep it safe and test the shower to make sure everything works properly.

For this type of work, it is better to hire a professional plumber to change the bathroom shower tap so the job is done properly and safely. I hope this helps you.

To change bathroom shower taps, detach the brass locking ring located behind your tap handle. A month ago, when my bathroom tap started leaking constantly, I planned to change the shower tap. Hence, I hired a plumber and observed the process he followed. It seems difficult at first, but it was actually quite simple. I have shared how to change shower taps in the bathroom below.

How to Change Bathroom Shower Taps Easily at Home?

  1. To prevent any unexpected sprays, shut down the main water valve.

  2. After that, remove any remaining water from the pipes by opening the shower tap that is currently in place.

  3. Carefully remove the brass locking ring behind your tap handle by using a wrench. It will detach the old tap from its fitting.

  4. Use a dry cloth to wipe the threads clean.

  5. About 3 times, wrap Teflon or plumber's tape around the pipe threads.

  6. Use your hand to fit the new shower tap onto the threads.

  7. Now use the wrench to gradually tighten it.

  8. Finally, turn on the water supply and look for any leaks.

These are the steps the plumber followed to replace the old shower taps with new ones. You can try this process only if you have the required tools with you.
