Summary
Underground water tank leakage repair usually starts by emptying and cleaning the tank. The walls, floor, cracks, and joints are then inspected to identify the leakage. Damaged areas are repaired using suitable waterproofing materials and allowed to cure properly. Finally, the tank is filled with water and checked to ensure the leakage has been fixed.

In my old home, we have an underground water tank. Recently, my father noticed that the water level was going down faster than usual, so we suspected that there was a leakage in the tank. I hired a professional to inspect and repair it. While he was working, I asked him about the repair process. Based on what he explained to me, I am sharing the steps so you can get a basic idea of how an underground water tank leakage is repaired.

What is the Process to Fix an Underground Water Tank Leak?

  1. First, the professional told me to empty the underground water tank completely. This makes it easier to inspect the walls, floor, and joints for leakage.

  2. Next, he cleaned the inside of the tank to remove mud, dirt, algae, and other deposits. He explained that a clean surface makes it easier to find the leakage point.

  3. After cleaning, he inspected the tank carefully for cracks, holes, damaged joints, and weak areas. He also checked the corners and connection points where leakage can occur.

  4. Once he found the leakage, he removed the loose concrete and damaged material around the affected area. This helped prepare the surface for repair.

  5. He then filled the crack or damaged portion with suitable waterproof repair material. For larger cracks or damaged joints, he applied an additional waterproofing treatment.

  6. After completing the repair, he allowed the material to cure properly as recommended by the manufacturer. He explained that proper curing helps the repair become strong.

  7. Finally, he filled the tank with water and monitored the repaired area. This helped him confirm that the leakage had stopped before using the tank again.

I hope you now have a clear idea of how to repair an underground water tank leakage.
