About GTB Nagar

GTB Nagar in Sion East is one of its key suburbs of Mumbai. GTB Nagar PIN code is 400037. The locality is adjacent to several well-known areas, including Sion, Dharavi, Matunga, and Kings Circle. GTB Nagar has quick access to the downtown region of Mumbai and the surrounding suburbs.

The rich history of GTB Nagar reflects Mumbai's expansion as a whole. It is also known as Koliwada, because it was formerly the home of the Koli people of native Mumbai. After India was partitioned, a colony was built for the rehabilitation of Sikh and Hindu refugees who had fled to Pakistan's North West Frontier Province. Many of the tenements and structures that were first built for the refugees are now in a poor state and are waiting to be demolished and rebuilt. Seven gurdwaras, including the Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar, can be found in GTB Nagar and the neighborhood.
