About Dharavi

Dharavi is a residential area in Mumbai, Maharashtra, situated between Mumbai's two main suburban railway lines, the Western and Central Railways. The locality is also adjacent to Mumbai International Airport. The Dharavi pin code is 400017.

The history of Dharavi dates back to the British colonial era when it was founded in 1884. Initially, it was a mangrove swamp inhabited by Koli fishermen. The colonial government's expulsion of factories and citizens from the peninsular city centre, as well as the movement of rural Indians into metropolitan Mumbai, developed the area. Over time, Dharavi has evolved into a highly diverse settlement, both religiously and ethnically.

It's very noisy and congested locality. You may find cheap apartments but they are very cramped and lack ventilation.

It's a good locality for budget-conscious people. Redevelopment will happen in some parts which means infrastructure will improve. Roads are slowly developing.

Not the cleanest locality in Mumbai. It can be smelly and sanitation is an issue. Also, roads are blocked during monsoon because of waterlogging. What I like is the easy access to metro and my workplace

We have rented a property here to bachelors. The demand is always high and vacancy is also low. The positive part is the public transport and social infrastructure. The problematic thing is the congested lanes and hygiene issues. It's close to the Dharavi slums
