0.7mm to 0.8mm thick Sunmica (laminate) for wardrobes is ideal for internal surfaces. It will remain lightweight and cost-effective. Sunmica 1mm thick is recommended for outdoor use, on doors, and in high-traffic areas. The thicker lamination on the exterior provides greater durability, scratch resistance, and long-term finish quality.

What is the Best Thickness for Wardrobe Interior?

Sunmica laminates come in a variety of thicknesses and sizes to accommodate different interior needs. For interior panels, shelves, and dividers, 0.8 mm laminate is usually sufficient.

  1. The most often used sheet size is 8 feet by 4 feet (2440 x 1220 mm), which is ideal for furniture panels, doors, cabinets, and wardrobes.

  2. It handles regular storage wear (clothes, boxes, linens).

  3. They are easy to apply to plywood or MDF.

A thicker laminate is not required because interior surfaces are subjected to less impact and friction.

What is the Best Thickness for Wardrobe Exterior?

For shutters and external panels that are visible, the best laminate is 1.0 mm. But you can use up to 1.5 mm of Sunmica. Generally speaking, 1.5 mm is not required for residential wardrobes unless you desire a luxurious finish or additional durability.

  1. They are more resilient to normal handling and scrapes.

  2. They have stronger edges and less chance of bubbling.

  3. It offers a high-end, solid feel.

As wardrobe doors are often opened and cleaned, a thicker sheet extends their longevity and durability.

So, for the best combination of longevity, finish quality, and cost effectiveness, always use 0.8 mm Sunmica for inside wardrobe panels and 1.0 mm Sunmica for exterior shutters and visible areas. Hope you found this helpful.

1 mm laminate will be best to choose for the wardrobe be it inside or outside. You can also go for 0.8 mm. I will suggest you ask your carpenter about it and tell him what kind of sunmica you want. Not all type of sunmicas is of the same price so better choose one first and then decide its thickness.
