Hi there, A Puja room is a place of positive energy. It is a place where we can rise again just like a phoenix and resume our journey to success. I do not agree with this view and I will tell you why. According to the Vastu, there are five elements that are fire, water, air, earth and space. These elements have their own direction. For example, the southeast direction is the direction of ‘Agni’ or the fire element. So, anything related to the fire such as cooking, or setting the kitchen is considered auspicious if it is situated in the southeast direction.  On the other hand, the northeast direction is considered the direction of the water. You can ignore Vastu norms in everything, but I will suggest you not even think of ignoring its rule while performing a pooja. Pooja is an auspicious occasion. I at least make sure everything is in its place and consult with our pandit a hundred times about it.  Kalas is a copper vessel used in pooja. It represents abundance and life's source. We perform no pooja without it so I am very well aware of in which side kalash should be placed. The right place to place a kalash is in the north-east direction.

Which side kalash should be placed left or right?

Vastu states that the kalas, filled with water, must be kept in the north-east direction. If you want to place the kalas in the mandir as well, you must place it in the north east direction. Also, we place it in the centre, but many people place it on the right hand side as well, so you can place it either in the centre or in the right hand side. You can ask your panditji about the placement of the kalash which side to be clear.

Is it compulsory to place a kalas during a pooja?

In Hindu shastra a kalas is a mandatory pooja item that must be present while performing a pooja. So it is good to see people clarifying where to place kalash in pooja room in this era.
