I had not paid much attention towards the construction of buildings until recently we started building a house of our own. A substructure is the lower part of a building constructed below the ground. Its aim is to transfer the loads from the superstructure or from the building to the underlying soil. The main parts of a substructure are the foundation and plinth beam and that is why I think people say that the foundation must be good to stand firmly.
