A low cost bedroom interior design with a basic wardrobe and storage, on average, ranges from Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 1.5 lakh. This is what I got for my 120 sq ft (10x12 ft) room from a few popular interior design companies. The actual figure greatly depends on whether you choose modular or custom-built.

One thing I noticed was that the wardrobe alone can use 40% to 50% of the total budget. Below, I have shared the latest pricing I found to keep the price affordable.

How Much Does a Compact Bedroom Interior Design Cost?

Basic paint or finishing for walls

Rs. 15 to Rs. 35 per sq ft

False ceiling (bedroom only, if kept minimal)

Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 15,000

Customised carpenter-made wardrobe

Rs. 600 to Rs. 1,000 per sq ft

Modular wardrobe (basic per sq ft rate)

Rs. 300 to Rs. 500 per sq ft

Modular wardrobe (ready-made, per unit)

Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 1,00,000

So, a basic functional bedroom, including a storage bed, modular wardrobe, and lighting, is priced between Rs. 45,000 and Rs. 90,000. These are estimates for budgeting purposes, not fixed quotes. The actual costs vary by city, contractor, and material brand.

How to Lower the Interior Design Cost without Cutting Storage?

  1. If the current flooring is in good shape, keep it instead of replacing it.

  2. Instead of covering the entire space, restrict the false ceiling to the area surrounding the bed.

  3. Using laminate finishes is recommended over acrylic or PU, as the latter can significantly increase costs per square foot.

  4. Using ready-made furniture for beds and side tables is recommended over custom carpentry.

  5. Choosing modular wardrobes instead of fully custom ones is advisable. Modular units are usually 30% to 40% more affordable for comparable storage space.

Consider getting quotations from professional carpenters as well as branded interior providers, because branded packages can include extra charges for design consultation and warranty services. I hope this helps.
