I have plywood flooring in two of the rooms, and last month, I considered whitewashing it to add some brightness without completely covering the wood grain with paint. I have seen a few tutorials on how to whitewash plywood floors, but I found the steps complicated. So, I hired a renovation team to do the job. I observed the process he performed and shared the same below.
Steps to Get White Washed Plywood Floor
Remove the furniture and clean the dust from the floor.
Use sandpaper that is 80 grit to sand the floor.
If required, use a filler to fill in the gaps.
You can now use a dry microfiber cloth and a vacuum to clean the floor.
Combine one part water and one part white latex paint.
Before applying, test on a scrap piece of plywood.
Now, use a sponge and brush to apply the whitewash.
Use a fresh cloth to wipe up the excess immediately. Go along with the wood grain. Let it dry for 2 hours.
After the first coat dries, apply a second coat for a deeper white tone. Let the second coat dry.
Finally, using a foam roller, apply clear water-based polyurethane sealant in at least two coats. Leave it for a day to get dry completely.
This is how the professional white washed my plywood floor.
