There can be some cases when you are required to transfer the name on the electricity bill. For instance, when the previous house owner has deceased and ownership has been transferred to their kids or when you shift to a new home (my case). Let me tell you about the electric bill transfer name process.
Documents Needed
- Aadhaar Card
- Attested copies of ID and address proof
- NOC given by the previous owner
- An indemnity bond on stamp paper (You can get it from any notary office)
- Copy of the property tax receipt
- Attested copy of the rent agreement/sale deed
- Last electricity bill and its copy
- Customer ID Number i.e., Account Number/CA Number/Consumer Number, etc. (specified on your previous electricity bills)
- Any other documents requested by the concerned authorities
- Go to the nearby electricity board office and ask the officials for an application form to transfer the electricity bill name.
- Submit the duly filled application form as well as the documents and pay the required fee.
- The authorities will then verify your application form and documents.
- After that, a technician will visit your address and verify the details.
- Finally, the electricity bill will be transferred to your name.
