I have recently

transferred my uncle’s name from BESCOM Electricity Meter to my father’s name.

The approach for changing the owner's name in a BESCOM bill is easy if you follow the below steps:

• Write a letter to BESCOM on plain paper asking for the transfer of ownership of an electricity meter.

• Provide your information as well as the consumer number and prior owner's details. Include all the required documents with your filled application.

• Ask an assistant engineer or junior engineer (JE) to verify your documentation. After confirming your report, JE will give you the report.

• Finally, submit the report to the BESCOM office and pay the transfer charge, which may be between Rs 100 and 200.

1. Registered Sale Deed / Ownership Proof (must clearly show transfer of property).

2. Latest BESCOM electricity bill (paid & up-to-date).

3. Photo ID & Address proof of the new owner.

4. NOC from the previous owner (consent letter).

5. Power Supply Agreement & Indemnity Bond on stamped paper.

6. Meter photograph and RR/consumer number.

For offline steps, you must follow these steps:

1. Collect Form 13 Transfer of Installation / Name Change Form from your local BESCOM sub-divisional office. 

2. Fill in details: RR number, old owner name, new owner name, address, and attach the documents.

3. Bring your documents and meter photo to the BESCOM O&M or sub-divisional office. A Junior Engineer (JE) will check the meter (often via photo) and sign & seal the form.

4. Pay the official transfer fee of Rs 100 (LT residential) or higher for HT. Additional notarization or stamp fees apply for agreements and indemnity bonds.

5. Submit the completed file along with the payment receipt to the BESCOM office. 

Get an acknowledgment number and track via Sakala online if available. The new name usually appears on the next billing cycle within 2 weeks.
